I found out my fiancé was a pedophile days after our daughter was born

A mother whose ex-fiance was jailed for pedophilia recalls the chilling moment when she discovered his heinous crimes.

Amy, from Sittingbourne in Kent, had just given birth to the daughter she shares with Jamie Kennedy when she found indecent images of underage girls on his phone.

Kennedy, 41, from Herne Bay, has been convicted of a range of child offenses at Canterbury Crown Court, including rape, sexual activity with a child and possession of indecent images of children.

His sentencing comes seven years after Amy made the gruesome discovery while cradling their two-week-old daughter in her arms.

As her ex awaits sentencing in September on 16 counts, Amy recalled how she thought he was having an affair – but was disgusted by what she found out.

Jamie Kennedy, 41, from Herne Bay in Kent, was convicted of 16 sex offenses at Canterbury Crown Court, including rape and assault

The mother, who has chosen not to share her last name, told them Kent Online she was awake in the middle of the night with her newborn in 2016, five days after they brought her home from a traumatic delivery, when she decided to check Kennedy’s phone.

She explained that she had been suspicious of him for weeks because he seemed to show little interest in his newborn daughter and was glued to his phone.

While Kennedy slept, Amy, who was saving for a mortgage with Kennedy at the time, searched his messages and at first couldn’t find anything out of the ordinary.

However, when she opened his Instagram app, the new mom found indecent images of underage girls, which he blackmailed them into sending him.

After making the sickening discovery, Amy said she “lost everything almost immediately.”

‘My child no longer had a father. My mortgage plans were off. Our wedding was cancelled. In an instant I had become a single parent who had essentially lost her entire life,” she said.

Not sure what to do, Amy ran into her mother’s room to wake her up. When her mother asked what was going on, she replied, “Jamie is a pedophile.”

While preparing to report him to the police, the mother and daughter stayed up all night trying to transfer the found evidence to another device, as Jamie had previously destroyed an old phone. Three days later, they presented the police with the evidence.

As time went on and Amy waited for Kennedy to be tried in court, she struggled with the constant fear of him showing up while she was out with their daughter and constantly looking over her shoulder while out in public.

She had a non-assault warrant issued against him, but claims he harassed her both in person and online, forcing her to move three times.

Meanwhile, she was made aware of more allegations against her ex – and even started working with his victims to help them report his abuse.

One of the victims was 16 years old when Kennedy approached her online and began flirting with her. Before long he blackmailed her into meeting him in person and during this meeting he raped and abused her.

After the victim (with Amy’s encouragement) reported her story to police, Kennedy was charged with rape and assault. Media coverage of his allegations forced another victim to come forward, who had been sexually assaulted by Kennedy 20 years ago, when she was just 13 years old.

The latest charges against Kennedy related to crimes committed against a 13-year-old girl last year.

The court heard that while the pedophile was out on bail and awaiting trial for his other crimes, the teen had lured the teen to his home to engage in sexual activity. Both she and the victim’s family were unaware that he was on trial for sex offences.

When Kennedy was first arrested, he denied the allegations against him and insisted that he reach out to children on social media as research for an online safety app he was developing.

His lies were quickly unraveled when it turned out that he had set up the company under the name ‘Keyword’ a day after his arrest.

However, during his trial, Kennedy attempted to pin the blame on Amy, claiming that he only confessed to the crimes because she had threatened to take his daughter away.

Oddly enough, he instead accused Amy of committing the crimes he was accused of.

He told the court his ex was “100% evil” and claimed the allegations against him could all be traced back to Amy.

However, the jury did not believe his story and unanimously found him guilty of all 16 charges in less than 11 hours of deliberations.

In all, he was convicted of two counts of causing or attempting to induce a child to engage in sexual activity, six counts of rape and sexual assault, and three charges involving indecent portrayals of children.

After being convicted, Kennedy was remanded in custody and will be sentenced on September 8.

Amy, who was in court with her mother and new husband when the verdict was read, described it as a “surreal experience.”

She described being so overwhelmed with relief that she burst into tears at the verdict.

As she tries to move on with her life, Amy has learned to stop blaming herself for Kennedy’s sick crimes because she couldn’t know what he was up to.

However, she expressed frustration that it took Kennedy seven years to be brought to justice following her 2016 police report.

Amy believes that some of Kennedy’s most recent victims could have been spared had he been convicted earlier.

Chief Inspector Nick Sparkes said: ‘Kent Police puts victims at the center of everything we do and officers investigate reports of crime as quickly and efficiently as possible to the highest standards, ensuring justice is served to victims and offenders punished for all offences. . We also provide protection and support to those affected.

‘In this specific case, the suspect was arrested one day after receiving the first report and an investigation was started.

‘Follow-up research led to the identification of more victims, which led to a very complex and sensitive investigation. This included conducting several interviews with witnesses and victims and gathering evidence, including downloading and analyzing it from numerous digital devices.

“This investigation has resulted in the approval of several sex offenses and a conviction in court with the perpetrator awaiting sentencing. We hope this provides some justice and closure for the victims in this case.

“We are committed to continuous learning and have taken steps to ensure that the strongest possible case files are submitted to the prosecution on the first attempt.

“We continue to review the circumstances of this case to identify any areas for improvement and future learning and have since engaged with those affected to address any concerns raised.”
