I live in the real haunted house that inspired The Conjuring and so many creepy things have happened – I refuse to go into the basement alone

A young woman who lived in the haunted house that inspired the film The Conjuring has shared her scariest experiences.

Madison Heinzen, 23, who is now responsible for the Rhode Island farm that spawned James Wan’s 2013 film, has described the strange sightings and sounds she has experienced over the years.

But despite experiencing several disturbing moments in the three-bedroom home, Madison said The sun she still sleeps there regularly.

And the brave woman who has reported seeing unusual figures, such as horror movie character Slender Man, and hearing creepy noises including growling, remains committed to her role as the farm’s ‘ghost host’.

Madison, the daughter of paranormal investigators, gives tours of the 19th-century farmhouse her parents, Cory and Jennifer Heinzen, used to own.

She recalled her first day in the house, with her mother and father, her brother and her now husband Jacob, when she heard “what sounded like a growl” above her head.

“I looked at the things the owner had left behind,” she said. “It scared me because I thought, maybe I’m not supposed to touch those things, maybe they don’t like that.”

The experience was especially scary for Madison because she was the only one who heard the sound.

Another moment that impressed Madison was when she was sitting at the kitchen table doing an interview.

This time, however, she wasn’t the only one to hear the two claps that seemingly came out of nowhere.

She said: ‘We all looked at each other because we were all standing still and I thought ‘Oh my God’ because that was something that happened in the movies where they played hide and seek.’

Even now, she remains in the dark as to where the sound came from, as the surveillance cameras covering the entire house failed to shed light.

In a scene in The Conjuring, the characters are blindfolded as they try to track down the other players by listening for a clap.

When clapping starts coming from strange places, including the basement, the film takes a terrifying turn.

To this day, Madison refuses to go into the basement alone.

Madison has also witnessed strange sightings in the house, including a shadowy figure who had “no face, no features, no light.”

Although she admits to feeling scared at times, Madison told The Sun that she tries to think of specific experiences not so much as scary but as “incredible.”

Directed by Australian director James Wan, The Conjuring was released in 2013. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga (pictured) played paranormal investigators as Ed and Lorraine Warren.

As she guides visitors through the house, she will use various devices to uncover ghostly activity.

Her favorites include dowsing rods – copper rods that supposedly move with supernatural energy – and spirit boxes.

By creating static white noise, these boxes apparently allow ghosts to communicate with sound and letters.

Among other unusual occurrences, the Maine resident reports hearing spirits say her name and hearing the child’s laughter.
