It was the pancake shaker that really got the Tesco pancake mix mixed.

Even after following the instructions on the bottle, I noticed that my pancake mix was still a bit lumpy.

After finally resorting to pouring it into a bowl and mixing it with a whisk, I got the smooth, lump-free consistency I was looking for.

Taste-wise, this mix was delicious after the pancakes were flipped

These pancakes were nice and crispy on the outside, while the center was soft and light – similar to that of a crepe.

Asda Pancake Shaker 155g

Once again the Asda pancake shaker wasn't the best, I had to resort to mixing the batter outside the bottle which defeats the purpose of buying a ready-made mix.

Ultimately, I found that this mix was just too dense and heavy, even with a fair amount of butter, which stuck to the pan.

It was quite difficult to find the balance between fully cooking the batter and not burning the outside too much.

I liked the bottle shape of this Co-Op shaker mix because it has grooves so you can get a good grip.

The batter was nice and thin, resulting in a fluffy crepe-light pancake, perfect with some lemon and sugar.

I think this batter will make at least six pancakes because it is so thin.

Morrisons Plain Pancake Shaker Bottle 155g

  • Price: £1
  • Price per 100g: 65p
This mix produced a batter that was nice and thick yet smooth

I quite liked this Morrisons batter, it was lovely and thick but still smooth, but you really have to dig your back into it when you shake this.

I'm not entirely sure this would make as many as six pancakes because it was so thick.

But I was left with a nice stack of three large pancakes, I say go all out and add something like cream or chocolate.

Iceland Green's Pancake Mix 155g

  • Price: £1.25

This mix was the most expensive we found

I wasn't too impressed with Icelandic Green's pancake mix.

Although they were not difficult to prepare, I found the taste very bland.

You'll have to add a lot of sweets like chocolate and sugar to make this worth it.

It doesn't get much better when you look at the price – this mix was the most expensive we found, but I wouldn't say it's worth the extra pennies.

Lidl Mcennedy Pancake mix 200g

  • Price per piece: 59p
The pancakes were quite sweet, so you don't need to add too many toppings

I was super impressed with Lidl's pancake mix.

The shaker says the pancakes are American style pancakes and it definitely felt like I had taken a trip to the United States.

The batter was very easy to whip out and the pancakes came out so creamy and fluffy.

The pancakes were also quite sweet, so I wouldn't say you needed to add too many toppings to them.

Even though these were a little more expensive than other brands, you do get more batter mix.

Sainsbury's Pancake Mix Shaker 155g

  • Price: £1.90p with Nectar card
  • Price per 100g: 64p
You cannot see the batter you are mixing because this box is not see-through

Sainsbury's pancake mix was the only one that didn't come in a plastic container.

You can still use this box to mix your batter and store it in the refrigerator if necessary.

But unlike the other mixes, you can't see what your batter looks like after you mix it.

Mine came out a little lumpy, but it was too late to add any more water as my batter was already in the pan.

My pancakes came out quite crispy, but definitely bland, so it took quite a few toppings to bring this batter up to standard.

Aldi Classic Mix 232g

If there is one thing I will say about this Aldi pancake mix, it is that it produces very thin pancakes, but they are quite absorbent, so lemon juice or chocolate are a delight.

I think you need a lot of topping because these pancakes came out very dry.

I have to deduct points because the mix came in a cardboard box.

I had to grab a bowl and mix this the old fashioned way, which involved a lot of unnecessary washing up.

The price is very good, you get quite a bit more batter than with the other mixes.
