I’m a traveler and this is why the Vietnam sleeper bus is a bargain (it only costs £8 to start)

Overnight sleeper buses are a budget-friendly alternative to flying or traveling by train – and they are especially popular among backpackers traveling through Vietnam.

Travelers exploring the Southeast Asian country are using TikTok to document their experiences on board the buses, with many praising the buses’ low prices and efficiency.

However, not everyone is impressed with the vehicles. One TikToker, Mia Challerclaimed her 20-hour sleeper bus journey from Hanoi to Hoi An was “one of the worst nights” of her life, as we reported, citing issues such as a lack of onboard toilets and the beds being too short for her were 6ft 2in frame.

However, at one now viral videoTikToker Remy Gumbs (@remygumbs) eagerly defends the sleeper buses and asks her followers: ‘What do you expect… for such low prices?’

The 27-year-old from Leicester captured footage of her 15-hour journey from Ho Chi Minh City to the resort town of Mui Ne, which revealed the entire bus journey cost just £8 ($10).

Some have complained about Vietnamese sleeper buses online, but TikToker Remy Gumbs (pictured in Hanoi) defended the mode of transport in a video that has now gone viral

In the video she explains how passengers take off their shoes when they get on the bus, put the shoes in a bag and are then assigned a place to sleep.

The video pans around the bus and shows bunk beds with blankets and pillows. “You pay £8, so don’t expect luxury,” Remy says in the video.

She tells her 4,300 followers that passengers can expect a bottle of water and “maybe some air conditioning if you’re lucky.” Additionally, she explains that “you do get bathroom breaks where you can grab food and snacks.”

Remy – who spent a month traveling around Vietnam – continues: ‘Everyone always complains about these sleeper buses, but when you pay £8 what the hell do you expect?

‘It literally costs £8 for a 15-hour journey. I think that’s a bargain.’

The TikToker notes that while the seats can get uncomfortable, the entire bus is lit up by LED strips at night, which she describes as “pretty relaxing.”

Speaking to MailOnline Travel about her experiences, Remy said she would ‘definitely’ recommend the sleeper buses to other travellers.

She says: ‘It is cheap and therefore affordable for long-distance travel compared to other transport [options]… sleeper trains are more expensive and I think you get the same level of travel.”

Remy says sleeper buses were her most used mode of transportation during her travels through Southeast Asia; she used them five times. ‘Some buses had a different style, but [all of them] had a bed you could sleep on,” she reveals.

Remy’s popular TikTok video has racked up 1.5 million views to date and hundreds of enthusiastic comments from followers.
