Shubman Gill will lead former champions Gujarat Titans after Hardik Pandya’s transfer to Mumbai Indians

New Delhi: Shubman Gill has been appointed as the new captain of the Gujarat Titans ahead of the upcoming edition of the IPL 2024. With Hardik Pandya returning to Mumbai Indians after two years, young opening batsman Shubman Gill will lead GT in the Indian Premier League.

Reacting to his appointment as GT skipper, Shubman Gill said he wanted to make it memorable. “I am proud to take on the captaincy of Gujarat Titans and I cannot thank the franchise enough for putting their faith in me to lead such a good team. Let’s make it unforgettable,” Shubman wrote from his official X account, formerly known as Twitter.

In his first season with GT, where they won the trophy under the leadership of Hardik, Gill made 483 runs in 16 matches at an average of 34.50 and a strike rate of 132.33, including four half-centuries.

Gill became the leading run-scorer in IPL 2023, making an impressive 890 runs in 17 matches at an average of 59.33 and a strike rate of 157.80, including three centuries and four fifties, as Gujarat finished second.

“Shubman Gill has shown growth in stature and stature at the highest level of the game over the past two years. We have seen him mature not only as a batsman but also as a leader in cricket.”
