However, all IPL franchises have already submitted their teams ahead of the mini-auction, which will be held in Dubai on Tuesday, December 19. But if a team wants to trade a player, they can do so on December 20, as the window will open again.

What is a player trade in IPL and when can it happen?

  • This is the case when a player moves from the IPL franchise that bought him to another franchise during the trading period. This can happen in an all-cash deal or via a player-to-player swap. As per the rulebook in the IPL, the trading window starts after a month when the season ends and continues until a week before the mega auction date. However, it will then take up to a month before the start of the next mega edition.
  • So, in the IPL 2024 trading window, the auction will be open until December 12, with the auction scheduled for December 19, and will open again on December 20 until a month before the 2024 season starts.

According to a report by Sports Today, Delhi Capitals had approached Mumbai Indians to trade Rohit Sharma as the franchise wanted a seasoned captain to lead their side with their skipper Rishabh Pant, who is returning from a serious injury and expected to play only if an impact player.
