A day-old baby, who police claimed was missing after leaving the hospital with her mother, has been found following a frantic police search.

Queensland Police confirmed an 18-year-old woman and newborn baby missing from Basin Pocket, Ipswich, had been found on Wednesday.

“They were in Ipswich shortly after 11am,” the alarm read.

“The police would like to thank the media and the public for their help.”

The update comes two days after a newborn was seen being placed in a white Suzuki Liana by two women at Ipswich Hospital.

Officers were asked to check on the new mother and her baby, but when they arrived at the home, the couple was nowhere to be seen.

Police on Tuesday issued an urgent orange alert asking for the public’s help in locating the mother and daughter, saying the child could be at ‘significant risk’.

The baby’s grandmother took to social media to fire off the amber alarm, claiming the newborn was safe and well cared for.

It is understood that the 18-year-old discharged herself and her baby from Ipswich Hospital on Monday, prompting caregivers to raise concerns with Queensland Police

She accused the amber warning of being a “discrimination against lies.”

It was previously reported that the baby had been taken from Ipswich Hospital, but this was disputed by Hannah Bloch, CEO of West Moreton Health.

“The mother discharged herself and her child shortly after giving birth,” she said.

“I am disclosing this information in the public interest so that women can continue to feel safe during their delivery at Ipswich Hospital.

“This was an isolated incident and the health care for mother and baby is not in question.”
