Is Taylor Swift’s song ‘When Emma Falls in Love’ about Emma Stone?

Taylor Swift dropped a handful of never-before-heard songs with the release of her latest re-recorded album — and one song has fans wondering if it’s about Emma Stone And Andrew garfield.

Swift, 33, debuted Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) on Friday, July 7. Along with updated versions of the original 16 songs, the singer added six new bonus tracks, including “When Emma Falls In Love,” a song that seemingly references Stone — who’s an old friend of Swift’s.

“When Emma falls in love, she calls her mom/Jokes about the ways this one could go wrong,” Swift sings in the first verse. “She waits and takes her time / Because Little Miss Sunshine always thinks it’s going to rain.”

As they began to dissect the lyrics, some listeners became convinced that “little miss sunshine” referred to Stone’s memorable Easy A scene where she sings along Natasha Bedingfield‘Pocket full of sunshine’.

Elsewhere in the new song, Swift sings: “Emma met a boy with eyes like a man / Turns out her heart fits right in the palm of his hand / Now he’ll be her shelter when it rains / Little does he know, its all the world is going to change.”

While some fans have theorized that the boy in question could be Stone’s ex Kieran Culkin — the couple dated after working on the 2009 film together Paper man — others wondered if the song focuses more on friendship than romantic love.

“Well she’s as New York as she’s in LA / She won’t lose herself in love like I did,” Swift sings in the bridge. “Cause she’ll call you, she’ll put you in your place / When Emma falls in love, I learn.”

However, Stone’s most high-profile relationship was with Garfield – which began after Swift wrote the song. The pair met when they played Gwen Stacy and Peter Parker respectively in 2012 The awesome Spider-Man. Sparks flew instantly and their on-screen chemistry quickly turned into a true-to-life love story.

“She keeps you sharp and that wakes you up. That was the beginning,” Garfield said MTV news in June 2012, and admitted that he was “so happy” when he learned that Stone had accepted the role after their screen test. “Those are the days I look forward to, you know? For [my character] Peter too, because Peter experiences terrible things in the film. There is some joy to be had in experiencing his first love.

The pair returned for the franchise’s sequel film, The Amazing Spider Man 2, in 2014 and finally stopped a year later. “They still have a lot of love for each other and they are on good terms with each other and remain close,” an insider told exclusively. The duo met in 2008 at the Young Hollywood Awards that Stone talked about MTV news that she wrote Swift “an email.” saying I liked her music” and their friendship grew from there. “She’s so funny and she’s exactly who you think she is, and I love that,” she shared.

The BFFs have since been spotted doing everything from fun ice cream in New York City to hookups in Paris. In 2010, Swift attended the premiere of Stone’s film Easy A — and was once again on hand for the debut of her 2018 film The favorite. (The movie also starred Swift’s boyfriend at the time, Joe Alwyn.)

“It’s just so important to have people you trust and Emma and Selena [Gomez] and me, we’ve had so many things in our lives that have changed over the years, but our friendship has stayed the same,” Swift said of her friendships to Access to Hollywood in October 2012. “So that’s really good.”

Prior to the original launch of Speak now in 2010, Stone revealed that she and the Grammy winner were so close that she could even hear the album early. “I was lucky enough to hear it quite early, so it’s so exciting to come out and own the songs instead of just singing them. [in my head]Stone said MTV news at the time. When Swift started her 2023 Era Tour earlier this year, Stone was in the opening night audience.

“The concert was pretty awesome,” Stone recalled Vanity purse in June 2023, noting that Swift “hooked me on” with the hard-to-get tickets. “She’s a great friend,” she added.
