New Delhi: Head coach of the Indian women’s hockey team Janneke Schopman resigned from her position on Friday. The Dutch coach submitted her resignation to Hockey India president Dilip Tirkey after India’s performance in the home series of the FIH Hockey Pro League in Odisha. She had taken over from former head coach Sjoerd Marine, under whose leadership India finished a historic fourth place at the Tokyo Olympics.

After the disappointment in the recent Olympic qualifiers, her resignation has paved the way for Hockey India to look for a suitable head coach for the women’s hockey team, who could prepare the Indian team for the next Women’s World Cup in 2026 and Los Angeles. Olympic Games 2028.

Schopman’s handwriting was on the wall. Under her leadership, the Indian women’s hockey team failed to reach the final of the Olympic qualifiers held at home in Ranchi. Schopman was notably part of the support staff when the Indian women’s hockey team achieved a historic fourth-place finish at the Tokyo Olympics. .

Schopman joined the Indian hockey team as a technical analyst while Sjoerd Marijne was in charge. Marijne left after the Tokyo Games, after which Schopman was promoted. It was under Schopman that former Indian captain Rani Rampal lost her place in the national team despite being fit and scoring in national tournaments.
