It’s the much-loved TV adverts that herald the arrival of Christmas – and John Lewis fans are eagerly awaiting the release of this year’s advert.

The British retailer’s annual festive campaigns often manage to tug at the heartstrings of viewers across the UK.

And with Halloween firmly behind us, many brands are dropping their Christmas productions – from Argos and Asda to M&S.

But John Lewis has kept fans eagerly waiting, keeping the release date and other confirmed information about this year’s commercial tightly under wraps.

However, the brand has reportedly sent an email to some shoppers noting that the signature ad is “almost here” and explaining how they can be the first to view it on launch day, according to Heart FM.

Here’s everything you need to know so you can be first in line to watch the highly anticipated ad.

When will the ad be shown?

Since 2014, the iconic Christmas ad has been released during the first two weeks of November.

The commercial usually appears on Thursday or Friday, so possible release dates in the running are November 9, 10, 16 or 17.

In 2022, the ad titled ‘The Beginner’ was shared on November 10 at 8pm, which followed a helpless foster father attempting to skateboard.

But this year, some lucky John Lewis customers may have their eyes on the advert first after a message was sent to shoppers noting that the famous advert is ‘almost here’.

The email reads: ‘Anticipation is growing… Our new Christmas advert is almost here. Join My John Lewis and download our app before October 31 so you can be the first to see it on launch day.’

One of the favorites expected to sing is Sir Elton John according to Betway.

The musician previously sang ‘Your Song’ for John Lewis’ festive advert, ‘The Boy And The Piano’.

But this week, recent Mercury Prize winners – Ezra Collective – have come top as bookmakers’ favorites for the John Lewis advert.

Other notable names thrown into the mix include Sam Ryder, Stormzy and Rina Sawayama.

As for the latest predictions, Betway spokesperson Chad Yeomans told the newspaper Subway:

‘It’s that time of year again, and with less than a hundred days to go before Christmas, the nation is once again turning its attention to who will carry the annual John Lewis Christmas advert.

‘This year it looks like a real battle between legendary artists such as Kylie Minogue and Sir Elton John, who will compete against the most popular band of the moment: Ezra Collective.

‘Whatever happens, this highly anticipated holiday staple is sure to keep punters intrigued until the big reveal.’

What is the ad about?

Information about this year’s theme is a lot like everything else related to the highly anticipated ad: a closely guarded secret.

In 2022, their moving ad, ‘The Beginner’, appeared in living rooms across the country.

The clip followed the story of a middle-aged man who desperately tried to learn how to skateboard, in an attempt to bond with the young girl he and his wife were caring for.

The heartwarming images were accompanied by a performance by Mike Geier, who covered the iconic Blink 182 song ‘All The Small Things’.

The advert was intended to raise awareness of John Lewis Partnership’s Building Better Futures programme, an initiative aimed at helping young people who have been in care.

The year before, in 2021, John Lewis released another wholesome advert titled ‘The Unexpected Guest’. The clip followed the friendship of a space traveler named Sky and a young child named Nathan.

However, John Lewis’s seasonal offering this year may be harder to swallow.

After a fourteen-year partnership, the quintessentially British store has ditched the British advertising agency behind its festive campaigns in favor of a daring French outfit called Megaforce.

The Parisian company’s previous work includes a video for Rihanna’s song B***h Better Have My Money.
