Julia Roberts’ iconic ‘Pretty Woman’ dress can be yours

Hunza G – the British brand that designed That dress Julia Roberts wore in the opening scene of Beautiful lady – has released a replica of the memorable gown for $300.

We all know the dress in question; barely there, blue and white, the top and bottom connected by a single silver ring in the middle.

While this dress isn’t the exact same version of the dress Roberts wore in the 1990 film (the bottom half of that dress has a blue and white pattern instead of a solid blue color), it’s pretty close.

The first time Roberts, now 56, appears Beautiful lady as Vivian Ward, she wears the infamous design. Vivian saunters down the stairs of her dilapidated apartment building, looking impossibly cool in her clothes, trying to avoid her angry landlord.

The film’s costume designer Marilyn Vance opted to accessorize the dress with a red and black overcoat on top, black leather thigh-high boots, a thick stack of silver bracelets and layered necklaces.

Several scenes later, the same dress causes Vivian to be belittled in a fancy store on Rodeo Drive.

When Beautiful lady debuted, Hunza G was known simply as Hunza. The creative director of the brand Peter Meadows was behind Hunza’s wrinkle-stretch fabric that is designed for a wide range of body types.

In 2015, the “G” was added to the brand name Georgiana Huddart became the new creative director.

When Hunza G and Beautiful lady Fans alike asked the brand to bring back the iconic dress, and they listened. The description of the dress on the website reads: “Did anyone say Vivian Ward? Our iconic Pretty Woman dress is back from the archives, as chosen by you.

This is not the first time that Hunza G has relaunched their Pretty Woman Dress. In June 2021, Huddart decided to release it to counter the toll the pandemic lockdown had taken on the public.

“After such a depressing year of being cooped up in casual clothes, it felt like the world needed something fun, comfortable, inclusive, nostalgic and powerful – and that’s exactly what this dress is,” Huddart told Harper’s Bazaar at the time. “It looks just as good on a size 16 woman as it does on a size eight woman, and I hope people feel really great in it,” she added.
