As Kanye West reveals he had his teeth removed and replaced with James Bond villain titanium dentures… these are some of the celebs who also sported outrageous grills

Kanye shocked the world on Wednesday when he revealed he had his teeth removed and replaced with Bond villain-esque titanium dentures. 

The 46-year-old rapper debuted his supervillain-chic look by flashing a smile and exposing the smooth dentures, rumored to have cost $850,000 (£670,000). 

He claims to have actually had his teeth removed and replaced with titanium to create the new permanent look – which a source said he designed himself.

The celeb world is no stranger to a bit of dental bling, with the likes of Madonna and Justin Bieber unveiling sparkling grills over the years. 

Here, MailOnline takes a look at the stars who have rocked some of the most shiny, and eye-wateringly expensive, teeth embellishments.  

Kanye

Kanye is known for his exhibitionism, and his latest unveiling was no exception. 

The rapper was pictured looking like the spitting image of the Bond villain Jaws on Wednesday as he debuted a full set of smooth titanium dentures. 

The implant is a new surgical model and is unique to the musician – with the total cost rumored to be an eye-watering $850,000 (£670,000).

A source revealed to Dailymail.com that the implants are ‘more expensive than diamonds’ and were designed by the star himself. 

Kanye’s new dentures were fitted by Dr Thomas Connelly in Beverly Hills alongside Naoki Hayashi, Master Dental Technician.

Connelly told DailyMail.com: ‘Ye was a pleasure to work with every step of the process. His vision for designing unique art transcends the dental progression. The marriage of his vision with dental science has created a new look that is epic!’

It’s not Kanye’s first bling dental reveal, as back in 2010 the rapper showed off the sparkling diamond and gold implants to chat show host Ellen DeGeneres – which he claimed had replaced his entire bottom row of teeth.

‘I just thought that diamonds were cooler,’ he told her, saying he asked the dentist to remove his bottom row of teeth and replace them.

A fascinated Ellen asked: ‘It’s not a grill?’

Kanye replied: ‘It’s really my real teeth. I replaced my bottom row of teeth. I guess there’s just certain things that rock stars are supposed to do.’

Madonna

Madonna has shocked countless times throughout her career with bizarre stunts. 

And in September 2022, the 65-year-old mega-star flashed a diamond encrusted grill while giving herself a moustache thanks to a smartphone filter.

In the clip, the Queen of pop sported a blue plaid shirt in the clip while her cotton candy pink hair was tied in braids. 

She put her gold manicured nails into her mouth as she pulled up her lip to showcase her pricey dental diamonds.

Just three months before, in June 2022, Madonna showed off a silver mouth grill top before posing with a horse shoe.

The singer posed up a storm for the camera with her grill’s blue guard in her mouth, which she later slid between her female pals lips. 

Madonna donned shared pictures from the evening on Instagram, writing: ‘There are NO grownups sitting at this table #newgrillz’. 

And sporting grills is not a new thing for the singer, as in 2013 she debuted two different sets in a matter of months. 

During a visit to the Rome branch of her Hard Candy fitness studio chain in August 2013, Madonna showed off gold glittering grills  – just a month after sharing pictures of herself brushing a different set.

Rita Ora 

Another star known to enjoy sporting blingy teeth is singer Rita Ora. 

Rita, 33, was most notably spotted donning shiny grills in October 2013 at Paris Fashion Week, when she flashed a smile to photographers.  

At the time, the How We Do singer tweeted a picture of her grills, writing, ‘Smile for me daddy…let me see your grill…. @dolly_cohen thank you, you angel!’

She smiled her way through Gare Du Nord before jumping on the Eurostar, Rita presented herself with a silvery grin, thanks to the grills that covered the bottom front row of her teeth.

Then in November 2020, Rita showcased some gold grills as she posed in an Instagram.

The songstress beamed to show off her customised ‘R’ grills, which were complemented by her scarlet lipstick. 

Her unveiling came ahead of the second national UK lockdown during the pandemic, and she captioned the post: ‘Last hurrah good luck everyone stay safe.’

Just one year later, Rita again got creative when it came to her accessories as she rocked up the MTV VMAs in New York City wearing personalised jewels on her teeth. 

She had onlookers doing a double take as she smiled, with a gold cap and diamond-studded ‘R’ jewel sitting pretty on her pearly whites. 

Alongside the initial was a small lightning bolt that sat in between two of her teeth, while a huge round-shaped black gem covered another tooth to the side of her mouth. 

Drake

He spent a small fortune making sure he had serious bling for his 2018 track In My Feelings. 

Drake spared no expense decorating his chompers with a 18 carat gold and pure platinum custom-made grill sets. 

It was reported the rapper headed to celebrity jeweler Ben Baller to make the grills less than four days before he shot the music video in New Orleans. 

The sets were made in 36 hours and flown directly to the shoot – and Drake made sure to flash a smile while recording. 

Jewellers ifandco posted at the time: ‘Custom 18K Yellow & 18K White Gold Full-Mouth Plain Semi-Deep Cut Grill Sets. 

‘Specially made for @champagnepapi in #InMyFeelings #Drake.’

Sources at the time said it was unusual to opt for such precious metals in a set of grills. 

Katy Perry 

Katy Perry has been known to sport an encrusted grill in her music videos, even breaking a world record for the most expensive. 

In her video for 2014 song Dark Horse, a man wearing an eye patch brandishes a giant diamond offering it to Katy in her exotic court in the desert.

After examining the precious gem, the Fireworks singer, 39, licks her lips as she burns the man into a pile of dust with the aid of her laser eyed throne.

She takes the fallen jewels from the man’s burned remnants and puts them in her mouth for a grill.

And in 2018, Guinness World Records confirmed the grill seen in the video had at the time broken the record for the most valuable – costing a staggering $1,000,000 (£758,388).    

Just one year before, Katy debuted her first set of expensive mouth bling at the 2013 MTV VMAs.

She took to the red carpet in Brooklyn, New York, in August 2013 wearing a diamond encrusted grill spelling out the title of her hit single Roar.

According to the New York Daily News, Katy spent over a $1,000 (£788) for the diamond grill and was designed by celebrity jewellery maker Paul (The Ice Man) Wall.

Justin Bieber 

Someone who is no stranger to a flashy set of grills is Baby singer Justin Bieber. 

The star seems to like the bling so much that he even donned a set for his wedding to Hailey.

After their second wedding in October 2019, the pair did a photoshoot where Justin debuted the diamond $25,000 (£19,714) lavender grillz.

Another occasion where the popstar splashed out on tooth bling was in 2017, when he showcased an addition to his jewellery collection in the form of a pink sapphire grill.

Taking to Instagram at the time to display his $15,000 (£11,830) piece, the Company singer acquired his sparkling mouth-piece from LA based jeweller Gold Teeth God – who reportedly created the grill in five days.

According to TMZ, the music superstar was flown out to Miami, Florida to get an impression of his teeth for the blinged out mouth-guard.

The grills were a mix of rose gold with light pink sapphires throughout the six teeth grill for both his top and bottom set of pearly whites. 

And in 2022 who showed grills were very much not a thing of the past, when he debuted a diamond-encrusted set on social media. 

The top and bottom teeth jewellery was done by none other than celebrity jeweler Johnny Dang who is known by the nickname of ‘king of bling.’
