On Salman Khan‘s 58th birthday, filmmaker Karan Johar‘s heartfelt tribute stirred nostalgic feelings, revisiting their iconic collaboration Cough Cough Hota Hai also stars Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukerji. Taking to Instagram, Karan Johar expressed his deep gratitude to Salman Khan for saying yes to a role in KKHH. KJo recalled an encounter 25 years ago and said he felt lost and discouraged after several rejections for a role. At a critical juncture, Salman approached him at a party and expressed interest in Johar’s script, based on recommendations from the superstar’s sister. Surprised by this unexpected turn of events, the filmmaker found himself narrating the film to Salman the next day, holding on to a prayer and a ray of hope.

In his lengthy post for Salman, Karan wrote, “25 years ago I was lost and confused at a party…. A huge movie star came up to me and asked me why I was standing at a corner… I told him that I had been to several actors for a role but was politely rejected… the superstar’s sister is close to me, so he kindly said that she had spoken highly of my script and that I would meet him the next day to tell him about the film… Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would even get the chance to to tell story. I went with a prayer in my heart and a deep desire for a miracle and narrated the first part of the film as if my life depended on it… He looked at me at the interval point (by which time I looked like I was in the Sahara -desert and water can keep me alive) kindly offered me water and said: ‘I’ll come with you!!!’ I was perplexed and said, but ‘you’re in the second half. haven’t you heard? He said, ‘I love your father and my sister will kill me if I don’t do this film’ and that’s how Salman Khan was in KKHH…. I am extremely grateful to Alvira and my father’s goodwill for ensuring that I had the perfect Aman and SALMAN KHAN in my debut film! Gestures and stories like this don’t happen anymore these days! Happy Birthday Salman! So much love and respect for you always.”
