The Sydney man was riding on the back of a moped driven by a friend when he hit a bump and fell off, hitting his head on the road.

Mr Malligan suffered a brain haemorrhage and broke his neck and was rushed to Nussa Dua Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

Despite being 32 weeks pregnant, his wife Leah flew to Bali to say goodbye to her husband in case the worst happened.

“The next 24 hours are the most crucial because it is up to him and his own body whether he recovers or not,” she told the newspaper. Sunday Telegraph.

‘He didn’t do anything crazy or drink. He and his friend just hit a bump in the road, four minutes away from where they were supposed to be.”

Mrs Malligan said she had tried to get travel insurance for her husband that covered scooters but nothing was available.

“Our medical costs are already up to €90,000 and we still need to get him home somehow,” she said.

Her parents, Jodie and Belinda French, have a GoFundMe page to raise money for their daughter and son-in-law.

As of Sunday morning, it had already raised almost half of its $100,000 goal.

“We can only hope and pray for them in this time of great difficulty.”
