It was a huge night for Succession, with the drama also winning leading actress awards for Sarah Snook, 36, before the series as a whole earned top honors for Best Drama Series in its final season.

Earlier in the evening, Matthew Macfadyen earned the event's first Emmy win for Succession when he earned a supporting role in a drama series.

Culkin first rose to fame as a child star thanks to his older brother and Home Alone legend Macaulay Culkin, now 43, who played Kevin McCallister's bed-wetting cousin, Fuller, in the 1990 film.

He would reprise this role in the 1992 sequel, playing Matthew Banks in Steve Martin and Diane Keaton's comedies Father of the Bride (1991) and Father of the Bride Part II (1995) – but he seemed destined for to always stand in Macaulay's shadow.

He would reprise his supporting role in the iconic teen comedy She's All That in 1999 as Laney Boggs' little brother Simon.

His breakthrough role as an adult would be starring in the 2002 film Igby Goes Down, which earned him his first Golden Globe nomination.

He also appeared in the second season of the television adaptation of Fargo.

However, it was his role as the youngest Roy son in Succession that would earn him critical and worldwide praise.

Kieran and Macaulay grew up in poverty with their five siblings, sharing one room in a small apartment.

His parents struggled to make ends meet – his father Kit, a washed-up Broadway actor, worked as a taxi driver and sexton for a Catholic church, while his mother quit her job to care for their large brood before eventually becoming a part of them landed. time acting as a telephone operator.

Kieran told me later Vanity fair of their parental home: 'It was hardly suitable for a couple [let alone a family-of-nine].

'It was just a corridor and there were no dividing doors, except for the bathroom, which had no lock.

“They raised seven children in that apartment for years. They just kept bringing babies into this little space.”
