Kristen Stewart says ‘Twilight’ is ‘such a gay movie’
Kristen Stewart has a completely different view on the matter Twilight series more than a decade after the franchise premiered.
While the films revolve around a heterosexual love triangle between Bella Swan (Stewart), Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) and Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner), Stewart, 33, said she now “can only see the show as gay.”
“I don’t think it necessarily started that way, but I also think the fact that I was there at all filtered through,” Stewart said. Variety on Thursday, January 11. “It’s such a gay film. I mean, Jesus Christ, Taylor and Rob and me, and it’s so hidden and not okay. I mean, a Mormon woman wrote this book. It’s all about oppression, about wanting what will destroy you. That’s a very gothic, gay bent that I love.
Amid the film’s rapid success, Stewart and Pattinson, 37, began an off-screen romance from 2009 to 2013. Years later, Stewart came out of the closet during her monologue about Saturday evening live when she called herself “so gay” while talking about the former president Donald Trump tweeting about her relationship with Pattinson.
“It was cool to put it in a funny context because it could say everything [about my sexuality] without [my] to sit down and do an interview,” she explained Thursday Variety. “So what platform will that take place on? And who is going to make money from that? And who will be the person who broke it? I broke it, alone.”
Stewart noted that “it wasn’t even like that [she] was hiding.” She went on to say that she “was so open with her girlfriend for years at that point,” adding, “I’m like, ‘I’m a pretty relatable person.'”
Months after coming out SNLStewart explained that she was “deeply in love” with everyone she dated.
‘Did you think I was pretending? I have always embraced a duality. And I really believed in it and never felt confused or struggling. I just didn’t like being made fun of,” Stewart said in her cover story Harper’s Bazaar UKthe September 2017 issue.
