Man, 50, charged with murder of mother, 58, found dead in Worcester home during attack that left daughter fighting for life

A man has been charged with murder after a ‘one in a million’ mother was found dead as her daughter fought for her life.

The body of ‘much loved’ Wendy Francis, 61, was found at home in Worchester Saturday evening, while a 38-year-old woman, believed to be her daughter, was taken to hospital in critical condition.

Police swarmed to leafy Haresfield Close at around 8.30pm on Saturday after receiving panicked calls.

A murder investigation was quickly launched and a 50-year-old man was arrested.

Police said today that 50-year-old Damian Homer was charged with Wendy’s murder and the attempted murder of the 38-year-old woman who is in stable condition in hospital.

He will appear at Kidderminster Magistrates’ Court this morning.

Wendy’s heartbroken family paid tribute to her yesterday.

Her loved ones said in a statement: “Wendy will be deeply missed; she was one in a million and very loved.”

Neighbors claimed it was Wendy’s daughter who was attacked along with her, as they talked about their shock at the death.

Andy Fowler, 62, has lived on the streets all his life and said he knew the mother well.

He said: “It has always been a good street.

‘I saw the ambulance working on someone and the Police I kept a blanket around it, so I knew something serious was going on.

“I know them very well. They are very good friends of mine.

“I’m very shocked, I can’t believe it.”

Another neighbor, who is in his seventies and did not want to be named, said: “We have been coming here for 25 years and have never had any problems, it is a lovely quiet street.

“We are shocked, we did not expect this.”

Friends and family paid tribute to Wendy on social media.

One said: “So sad. I remember Wendy and she was a sweet lady. Thoughts are with her loved ones.”

Another said: “Sleep well Wen, your family and friends will miss you. You have left a huge hole in so many lives. You will forever be a warrior and protect those you loved.”

While a third said: “Sad news to wake up to. Such a loving, caring person who would do anything for anyone.

“She will be sadly missed. Shocked.”
