DAVID GILL says his biggest regret during his time at Manchester United was the row between Roy Keane and Sir Alex Ferguson.

Ferguson got rid of his club captaincy after speaking out in a MUTV interview about the team's performance in a 4-1 defeat at Middlesbrough in October 2005.

The interview was never shown and Sir Alex insisted that Keane meet the Man United team and explain his criticisms.

But after a fiery meeting that also saw Keane turn on the manager and his assistant Carlos Queiroz, Sir Alex decided it was time to part ways.

Keane was called to a meeting with Ferguson and then general manager Gill at the training ground, and he was gone.

The pair have never made up since, even to the point where Keane stopped Ferguson from addressing the crowd after returning for his testimony.

Speaking to Rio Ferdinand on his FIVE YouTube channel, Gill said: “Roy was a difficult situation.

“There was a MUTV interview and it was decided he would go there.

“For me it was the right and very quick decision at the time.

“One of my regrets is that they were both so good to each other, and it's a shame to see them part.
