Man Utd ‘scout 29-year-old Dinamo Zagreb star’ as search for striker falters

MANCHESTER UNITED’S search for a striker has taken a bizarre turn after a surprising new report.

Erik ten Hag’s side spent £72 million on Rasmus Hojlund last summer and the Dane is finally starting to find his feet in front of goal.

Hojlund’s double against Luton in his final appearance extended his scoring streak to six consecutive Premier League games.

That broke a Prem record as he became the youngest player ever to achieve such a feat.

However, that hot streak was cut short when he suffered a knock that ruled him out for three weeks, although he is likely to be back for United’s FA Cup clash with Liverpool on Sunday.

The 21-year-old Dane’s absence has further highlighted the need for reinforcements in attack for the Red Devils, who have been linked with a host of names in recent months.

Now, however, a shocking new player has been thrown into the mix.

According to Index.hrUnited have scouted Dinamo Zagreb’s striker Bruno Petkovic and are eyeing a potential signing for him this summer.

The 29-year-old Croatian international is under contract with Dinamo until 2025, who will reportedly try to cash in on him to avoid losing the ace for nothing in 12 months.

And he could be available for just £4.28m.

The update claims there has been no contact between the two clubs yet, although Dinamo know United scouts were recently on hand to keep an eye on the forward.

Petkovic moved to Dinamo in 2019 after spells at Bologna and Hellas Verona in Italy.

Since then, he has scored 45 times in 137 top-flight appearances and has nine goals and three assists domestically this season.

However, he also impressed in the Europa League and is the second top scorer in the competition with seven points.

And he also shone at the 2022 World Cup when he found the net in the quarter-final against Brazil.

Petkovic scored ten goals in 34 appearances for his country.
