Nottingham Forest had held out well to frustrate the visitors, but the resistance was finally broken in the 65th minute.

Jesus, 26, was able to fire past Turner despite shooting from a very tight angle.

And Arsenal fans flocked to social media to salute their former player after his blunder.

One fan wrote: “Matt Turner, once a Gooner, always a Gooner.”

A second joked: “Matt Turner got frustrated with Arsenal not being able to put the ball in the net and so did they.”

A third wrote: “Best Arsenal contribution of Matt Turner's career.”

A fourth said: “Officer Matt Turner, thank you.”

A fifth said: “Reminder: Matt Turner is a Gooner.”

Another said: “Matt Turner😂😂. Double agent.”

Turner joined Forest last summer for £10 million on a contract until 2027.

Since arriving in the Midlands, the US international has remained unconvinced and has made a number of mistakes.

Statistics say he made three mistakes that led directly to goals for the opposition.

This has not helped Forest's performance this season, which saw Steve Cooper sacked in December.

The Welshman was replaced by Nuno Espirito Santo, who has spoken about potentially adding a new goalkeeper to his squad this month.

When asked about rumors linking the club with another shutdown, the manager said: “Anything can happen.

“We are linked to a thousand players.

“Maybe some of them are right. But the majority is completely wrong.'
