Michelle Keegan has revealed she would like to play a ‘villain’ in her next role, following the success of Fool Me Once.

The actress, 36, stars in it the eight-part series based on the novel of the same name by Harlan Coben and has impressed the viewers so far.

The thriller – in which Michelle plays ex-army captain Maya – has soared to the top of the Netflix charts.

And during Wednesday’s episode of This Morning with hosts Josie Gibson and Rylan Clark to discuss the show’s success, Michelle also shed some light on her future acting plans.

She confessed: ‘I always say I live in the moment. I am very grateful for every job I get.

‘I always say I pinch myself and I do a lot. Maybe next I would like to play a darker role, all my characters are quite likable.’

Rylan and Josie quickly interjected, excitedly commenting, “Ooh, you want to play a bad guy!”

‘Yes, a little darker!’ agreed Michelle.

And speaking about her role in Fool Me Once, Michelle admitted she loved the gripping story.

She continued, “I’ve read the book before and I couldn’t put it down. I literally read the book in two days.

“I got the part where this was a huge twist and I let out such a loud gasp that everyone turned and looked.”

‘It was quite difficult to go from Brassic straight to a drama as they are completely different ends of the spectrum, but I like the challenge of making a thriller.’

Reflecting on her success on Instagram on Tuesday, she shared a photo with her co-star Joanna Lumley, 77, backstage at The One Show.

She wrote in the caption, “Me and my mother-in-law on screen. (We really love each other) What a day!!!!

‘So overwhelmed by all your wonderful messages about Fool Me Once. Thank you, thank you xxx.”

In the show, Michelle plays the apparent widow Maya Stern, but after installing a nanny cam to keep an eye on her young daughter, she sees her late husband Joe – played by Richard Armitage – on camera.

This revelation throws Maya into a world of conspiracy as she wonders what really happened to her partner and what role his family, and specifically his mother (Joanna Lumley as Judith Burkett), played in the saga.

Viewers are loving it, as one person on newseries’.

Fool Me Once is based on a book by acclaimed author Harlan Coben, and also stars British heavyweight Dame Joanna, The Hobbit star Richard Armitage and Irish actor Emmett J. Scanlan, among others.

The synopsis reads: “When ex-soldier Maya spots her murdered husband on a secret nanny camera, she uncovers a deadly conspiracy that reaches deep into the past.”

It came after Michelle’s husband Mark Wright took to his Instagram Story to praise her new series.

Mark, 36, – who tied the knot with Michelle in 2015 – was a proud husband as he captioned a teaser clip: “Incredible show, incredibly proud. @michkeegan you are a superstar.

‘Fool Me Once all eps now worldwide on Netflix!! You want to binge!! Turn this on now!!”

The star’s latest project comes after spending some time with the family when she and Mark joined the family to celebrate his father’s birthday at the Corinthia Hotel.
