Mojang, the video game developer, issued a warning on social media.

It said: “Do not update Minecraft through the Xbox app on PC. Doing so may cause your worlds to be lost.”

Instead, the developer suggested running the Gaming Services Repair Tool for PC before installing the update, which can be found in the PC app.

This should clear the glitch by updating Microsoft’s Gaming Services to version 19.87.13001.0, as confirmed by Minecraft’s Game Release Known Issues page.

To run the repair tool, gamers need to open their Xbox app on their PC and then click on their profile picture.

Select the Support button and click Gaming Services Repair Tool to click Start Troubleshooting.

The latest Minecraft update will bring new experimental features for a mega upgrade launching this summer.

It includes doubling Wolves’ health, the introduction of Bogged, a new skeleton with poison arrows, Wind Charge and the Vault block.

Players also have the option for a monthly subscription that gives them access to over 150 content packs from the in-game Marketplace.

It comes as Minecraft has expanded and ventured into the world of education.

Thanks to a new package, many schools now use the platform as part of the curriculum at a number of schools.

Minecraft Education is a version of the video game designed specifically for schools and educational environments.
