A MURDER investigation is underway after a man was killed in a collision near Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium.

The 57-year-old was found unconscious in the Beswick area just before 11 a.m. on Saturday.

Members of the public rushed to the victim’s aid after the horrors at the intersection of Holly Street and Olympic Street.

The horror took place about 1 km from the Etihad Stadium Where City defeated Newcastle 2-0 in the FA Cup quarter-final yesterday afternoon.

CSI agents were on the scene Saturday taking photos while other detectives conducted door-to-door investigations.

A number of evidence cones were also seen within the cordon.

An extensive investigation is now underway to determine the circumstances.

Stephen Blanchard, 47, who lives near the crime scene, told the Manchester Evening News: “It’s scary because this is a quiet neighborhood.

‘There are no problems here. Something like that never happens.’

A GMP spokesperson said: “Firstly I would like to thank the brave people who immediately came to help the victim when emergency services arrived on the scene.

“This is a tragic incident where a man has lost his life and our priority at this time is to support his family and give them the answers they deserve.

“Our thoughts remain with them at this devastating time.”
