2 NEET aspirants die by suicide in Kota in Rajasthan within one day

This is the 13th case of suspected suicide by a coaching student in Kota this year.

Kota: No suicide note was found in the hostel room, police said.

New Delhi: An 18-year-old medical aspirant is said to have committed suicide in his hostel room in Kota, Rajasthan. The teenager, who hails from Udaipur, was preparing for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET). He allegedly hanged himself on the intervening nights of Monday and Tuesday.

However, no suicide note was found in the hostel room, police said, according to the PTI news agency.

The deceased teenager has been identified as Mehul Vaishnav, a resident of Salumbar in Udaipur district. He has been preparing for NEET in a coaching institute in Kota for the past two months. He lived in a hostel in the Vigyan Nagar area.

Vaishnav was alone in his hostel room because his roommate was out that night. When he did not come out of the room until late Tuesday morning, others in the hostel informed the concierge, who broke down the door and saw the boy hanging from a ceiling fan.

According to a report by India Today, another medical aspirant in Kota was said to have committed suicide on the same day as Mehul. The student identified as Aditya, who was preparing for NEET in a coaching institute in Kota, hanged himself to death.

This is the 13th case of suspected suicide by a coaching student in Kota this year. In 2022, at least 15 cases of supervised student suicides were recorded in Kota.
