On Camera: Pit Bull Takes Baby From Grandfather's Lap In Delhi, Child Suffers Multiple Fractures And Stitches

New Delhi: In a terrifying incident, a one-and-a-half-year-old girl was grabbed from her grandfather's lap by a Pit Bull dog and attacked in north Delhi's Burari area. The toddler received many stitches to her leg and suffered three fractures, her parents said. According to police, the incident took place on January 2, when the child went for a walk with her grandfather.

CCTV footage shows the dog's owner and six to seven men trying to separate the Pit Bull from the baby. It took almost a minute to pull the baby away. According to reports, he was also hospitalized for 17 days.

“The dog held my child's leg with its jaw, and it took us some time to free her from its clutches. My granddaughter suffered multiple injuries to her body. Her right leg suffered three fractures and several stitches,” the grandfather told the news agency PTI.

The girl's family claimed that they approached Burari police station to file a case but the police refused despite producing the CCTV footage. Instead, the police allegedly pressured the girl's family to make compromises.

Police said they were verifying the facts of the case before registering a case under relevant sections.

In a similar incident, a seven-year-old girl was allegedly attacked by a neighbor's American Bully dog in Rohini's Sector-25 area on January 9. The girl had suffered 15 wounds on her body. Several members of the association held a protest against the dog menace in their area.

Numerous dog breeds, especially pit bulls, are no longer allowed to be kept as domestic pets in India due to their perceived 'dangerous' and 'ferocious' qualities. In December last year, the central government said a decision would be made within three months on the ban on permits for keeping 'dangerous' dog breeds as pets.
