The Election Commission of Pakistan announces the schedule of the presidential polls
As mentioned earlier, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday released the announcement and schedule for the presidential elections scheduled to take place on March 9, Pakistan-based Geo News reported. According to the ECP, the candidates for Pakistan’s highest constitutional office can submit nomination papers to the presiding officers in Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar and Quetta before 12 noon (local time) on March 2, Geo News reported.
Pakistan Election Commission notification issued
The notification issued by ECP reads: “In pursuance of the provisions contained in paragraphs 1 and 3 of the Second Schedule of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, 1973 read with clauses (3) and (4) of Article 41 of the Constitution A public notice is hereby issued for the election to the office of President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and in connection therewith the following program for receipt of nomination papers, examination of nomination papers, withdrawal of candidacy, publication of a list of validly nominated candidates, retirement – and election day.”
Pakistan Presidential Election 2024: Completed Process
According to the notification issued by Pakistan’s election watchdog, the returning officers will scrutinize the nomination papers filed by the presidential candidates on March 4, adding that the candidature could be withdrawn the next day. After this, the ECP will announce the list of validly nominated candidates on the same day and March 6 has been fixed as the date of retirement. According to the Geo News report, the voting for the next President of Pakistan will take place in the National Assembly and all provincial assemblies from 10am (local time) to 4pm (local time).
According to the formula applied for the election of the President in Pakistan, a senator’s vote is considered as a single vote, while in the Sindh Assembly, one vote will be equivalent to almost four votes, Pakistan-based Dawn reported.
