Perdita Weeks: Things Were Once ‘Hiccup-y’ With ‘Magnum PI’ Cast

Perdita weeks looks back on her time Magnum PI with great affection as the series concludes after five seasons.

The crime drama, which premiered in 2018 and ended on Wednesday, January 3, was on display Jay Hernández steps into the role of private investigator Thomas Magnum, the character previously made famous by Tom Selleck in the original 1980s series. Weeks played Juliette Higgins, a former MI6 agent who becomes Magnum’s partner before things turn romantic. The series also starred Zachary Knighton, Amy Hill, Betsey Phillips, Tim Kang And Stefan Hill.

Forming close bonds with her co-stars is one of the things Weeks will remember most – even if it started out a little rough at first. “It was kind of fun hanging out with my best friends, even though we obviously didn’t start out as best friends,” she says Us. “I thought, ‘Who are these people?'”

“It was a bit of a problem at first,” adds the British actress, who is currently enjoying her time off in London. ‘I was just very English, and they’re very American, and [there] was initially a big cultural divide.”

Eventually, “I warmed up a bit,” she says. “I took the stick out of my butt and we got along great.”

Five years later, Weeks considers her colleagues some of her closest confidantes. “I know these people incredibly well,” she continues. “Jay said, ‘You’ve spent more time with me than any of your other friends have in your entire life.’ And I thought, ‘That’s true, because [filming takes] 15 hours a day for eight months of each year.’”

“We are all super close and there is a lot of love,” she says. “I would be very happy to work with any of them again.”

Throughout the five seasons of Magnum PIWeeks’ character showed tremendous growth – something the actress is very proud of. Tudors alum explains, “just because he was so close to Magnum and his sweetness rubbed off on her, melting whatever icy external shield she had.”

“The love story was clearly Higgins’ main arc,” Weeks adds. “That whole dynamic – from contemptuous to charmed to just plain infatuated with this person – was really fun to play.”

If We weekly Previously reported, Hernandez revealed he “wasn’t crazy about” how Magnum PI ended and went to X to express his disappointment after the finale aired on January 3.

While it’s unclear why the actor — who also teased the possibility of a “standalone film” — was unhappy with the show’s conclusion, things remained open between Higgins and Magnum. (Higgins pondered her future with Magnum after finding an engagement ring she mistakenly thought was for her, then told him she would say yes if he asked her to marry him.)

For her part, Weeks was pleased with where the characters’ story ended up — and hopes fans are pleased, too. “It’s a form of ending, two people falling in love and living happily ever after,” she says. “I think that was the best kind of bow that could have been put on the show to end it. It was a bit of a full circle.”
