Peter Pan turns 20! As the 2003 film celebrates twenty years since its debut, how the cast has fared: from movie stardom to motherhood to a VERY royal role

The 2003 adaptation of Peter Pan celebrates its twentieth anniversary this weekend, with many fans looking back on the underrated blockbuster with fond memories.

The film struggled at the box office when it first hit screens, despite positive reviews for its faithful take on the 1900 novel.

While the film featured some big names, including Jason Isaacs as Captain Hook, much of the cast consisted of young unknowns who jump-started their careers.

Since their release, they have had mixed success, with some rising to even greater heights in Hollywood.

So as Peter Pan fans commemorate the twenty years since the fantasy hits hit the screens, MailOnline takes a look at where the cast are now…

Peter Pan – played by Jeremy Sumpter

Originally from Kentucky, Jeremy Sumpter started modeling when he was just 11 years old and started acting soon after.

This led to him being cast in the role of Peter Pan in 2002, when he was 13 – and he took the acting gig very seriously.

Not only did he practice sword fighting five times a day, he also learned gymnastics and weight lifting to perform most of the stunts himself.

After taking home a Saturn and Young Artist Award for his role in the film, Jeremy, now 34, quickly embraced his next role a year later.

However, his turn on the TV series Clubhouse was short-lived after CBS canceled it after just five episodes. He also starred in Cyber ​​Seduction: His Secret Life, The Sasquatch Gang, CSI: Miami, Calvin Marshall, You’re So Cupid, Soul Surfer and Death and Cremation.

In April, Jeremy revealed he had become a father for the first time after welcoming a baby girl named Lucy Snow with his wife Elizabeth Treadway.

Captain Hook – played by Jason Isaacs

Jason was born in Liverpool and quickly rose to fame in Britain, starring in the ITV drama Capital City and guest starring in Inspector Morse.

Major roles include an appearance in the Bruce Willis blockbuster Armageddon (1998), Schindler’s List (1993) and The Patriot (2000).

After playing Hook in 2003, Jason, 60, hit the big time as Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter films and Michael Caffee in US television series Brotherhood, and has since had a string of major film and TV roles.

More recently he transformed into Hollywood icon Cary Grant for an ITX drama, and also starred in Mass and the war drama Operation Mincemeat.

In Peter Pan, Jason took on the role of uptight father Mr Darling and Captain Hook, as mentioned in the original play.

In a recent interview with YahooJason said he believes the 2003 version of Peter Pan is the most faithful adaptation to date.

He said: ‘It’s strange that the Peter Pan film exists because it’s been a huge success since it was made, but when it came out it was a catastrophic flop because people thought, ‘Oh, I’ve seen that before’. Actually, no one has ever made a Peter Pan movie.’

“So many women tell me this is actually their favorite movie I’ve ever been in because JM Barrie captured that horrifying moment when you, as a girl, realize the world is looking at you as a woman.”

Wendy Darling – played by Rachel Hurd-Wood

Wendy Darling, who fell in love with Peter Pan, was played by Rachel Hurd-Wood from Streatham, South London.

She got the role in 2002, when she was 13, after her grandparents saw an advertisement on TV saying that director PJ Hogan was looking for a “young English rose” to star in the film.

Her parents flew her to the Gold Coast, Australia, for eight months of filming and she received critical acclaim for her efforts.

She then starred in Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Silk Stocking in 2004, and had a major role in the thriller An American Haunting.

She spent her teenage years in London and studied linguistics at University College London, acting in Dorian Gray alongside her studies.

After landing a lead role in the 2009 Australian action-adventure film Tomorrow, When the War Began, which became the highest-grossing film in Australia that year, she decided to drop her studies to focus on acting.

Rachel, now 33, went on to have other major roles in films and even a cameo in a music video, but has focused on motherhood in recent years.

She married Scottish actor Russ Bain in 2017 and gave birth to their son in 2018 and a daughter in April 2021.

Tinkerbell – played by Ludivine Sagnier

French actress Ludivine Sagnier has been acting in films and TV since 1989 and has been nominated for numerous awards before landing the role of Tinkerbell.

In addition to her acting duties, Ludivine, 44, has a daughter, Bonnie, with former partner actor Nicolas Duvauchelle, and is now married to Kim Chapiron, with whom she has two daughters.

She is currently starring in the critically acclaimed French Netflix drama Lupine, and will also appear opposite Michael Douglas in an Apple TV+ series about Founding Father Benjamin Franklin.

Mrs. Darling – played by Olivia Williams

Before Olivia, now 55, starred as the matriarch of The Darling family, she had already appeared in a slew of films, including The Sixth Sense and The Postman.

Since appearing in film, she has starred in Hanna, Anna Karenina, Sabotage, Maps To The Stars and The Father.

The actress, 55, married actor and playwright Rhashan Stone in 2003, and they have two daughters.

More recently, Olivia played a controversial new role as Camilla Parker-Bowles in the fifth and sixth series of The Crown, which depicted her romance and eventual marriage to the then Prince Charles, played by Dominic West.

Curly – played by George MacKay

As a member of Peter Pan’s Lost Boys group, George was a relative unknown when he landed the role of Curly.

However, the now 31-year-old actor rose to worldwide fame in 2019 when he starred in Sam Mendes’ gripping war drama 1917.

He has since had roles in The Beast, Munich: The Edge Of War and Wolf, and in November he married his long-term girlfriend, make-up artist Doone Forsyth.

Mr Smee – played by Richard Briers

Before starring as Captain Hook’s sidekick Mr Smee, Richard was already known to British viewers thanks to his role in the BBC sitcom The Good Life, which ran from 1975 to 1978.

He also appeared in four series of Monarch of the Glen as Hector MacDonald and even had a small role in Spice World as the Archbishop of Canterbury.

Richard also gained wide recognition for his charity work and became President of Parkinson’s UK.

The actor died on February 17, 2013 at the age of 79 after suffering cardiac arrest, six years after being diagnosed with emphysema.

He was also married to actress Ann Davies, who starred in Doctor Who and Doctors, and his daughter Lucy also had roles in Our Girl, Red Dwarf, Casualty and Zack Snyder’s Justice League.
