  • Her feet in sneakers were seen resting on the seat in front of her
  • It sparked a heated debate online about airplane etiquette

There are limited options for comfort on board an airplane, so one passenger's decision to rest his feet on the back of a fellow traveler's seat was met with anger.

In a photo shared on Reddit, a woman is seen relaxing in her seat on the Delta plane as people around her board the plane.

The photo has been taken from behind the woman sitting in the middle row of seats.

She is wearing leggings and shoes and sitting back on her chair, with her legs stretched out in front of her.

The woman's feet, still wearing sneakers, rest on the chair in front of her.

Although no one is in the seat yet, Reddit users were up in arms at the thought of someone having to endure the duration of the flight so close to someone's dirty shoes.

'Unless you're willing to lick the bottom of your shoe from heel to toe. Then you better take your feet off the headrest,” one Reddit user warned.

“This is why it's imperative that you carry disinfectant wipes and wipe down everything in your seating area,” another noted.

'She has to sink so far in her chair to make this happen. She has plenty of leg room I'm sure,” someone else wrote. “She's just an asshole.”

“Yeah, there's nothing wrong with germ-tainted sneakers hitting someone's head all over the airport,” a fourth person said sarcastically.

'People have lost all sense of politeness when flying. At least she doesn't have gnarly bare feet poking through the hole in the armrest,” someone typed.

Others didn't mind the foot error as much as other Reddit users.

“She is 100 percent in her space and has kept her shoes on,” one person commented. 'Other people are jealous because they are not flexible enough for that.'

'During boarding? Not bothering anyone yet. The front seat doesn't recline,” another agreed. “The flight attendant will be over shortly to tell her to take them down and keep them there. I've seen it happen. Not on Delta, but on America.'

As we enter a new year of travel, one expert has put an end to the debates about what is and isn't acceptable on planes.

Previously, travel expert Dawn Gilbertson shared a comprehensive list of do's and don'ts with the Wall Street Journal to make sure everyone is on the same page when it comes to 2024 about what behavior is appropriate in the air — and even weighed in the debate about reclining seats on board.

Gilbertson said that regardless of whether your team is reclining or not, you should absolutely alert your rear flight neighbor if you are about to launch your seat back into their space. “It's the polite thing to do,” she said.

She also commented on disembarkation procedures, saying that you have to wait your turn to leave the plane – unless a flight attendant has already announced that specific passengers will be given special privileges.
