Princess Madeleine of Sweden has celebrated her wedding anniversary with sweet throwback photos on social media.

The 40-year-old royal family, the youngest child of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden, marked 10 years of marriage to US financier Christopher O’Neill with ‘private’ photos from their big day on Instagram.

Shared today, the snaps offer a behind-the-scenes look at the couple’s lavish ceremony, as well as Madeleine getting ready with her mother Silvia, and Chris stealing a kiss from his bride during the reception.

The couple tied the knot on June 8, 2013 in the chapel of the Royal Palace in Stockholm, before moving to New York in 2015, followed by London and later Florida, where they currently live with their three children.

This is because the Swedish royal family announced earlier this year that Madeleine and Chris will return to Sweden ‘indefinitely’ from August.

In snaps shared by Madeleine today, the mother-of-three reflected on her wedding day, where she sparkled in a Valentino dress made of silk with ivory Chantilly lace appliqués.

She wore it with a six-foot veil also made of silk organdies, lined with tulle and embellished with flowers of Chantilly lace.

Two stylish black and white portraits showcased the bride’s glamorous make-up and glitzy choice of accessories.

Her hazel locks were swept into a low bun and held in place by her regal tiara, which was adorned with a delicate wreath of fresh orange blossom.

One photo shows her being escorted to her ceremony by her mother, Queen Silvia, who wore a blue dress adorned with precious stones.

The snaps also captured a jubilant Chris and Madeleine as they hit the dance floor at their wedding reception.

Another shot showed the couple arriving at the reception, and another captured the groom addressing his bride and wedding guests at the dining room table in front of a wall decorated with hundreds of pink and white roses and peonies.

Madeleine also shared a sweet photo of her and her husband sharing a kiss, with a glass of champagne in hand.

“A look back at some private moments I cherish from our wedding ten years ago today,” the royal family wrote with a heart emoji on their Instagram account.

The wedding was attended by several famous faces, including John Taylor of Duran Duran, Prince Nikolaos of Greece, Karl-Johan Persson – the CEO of fashion company Hennes & Mauritz (H&M), and Roxette stars Per Gessle and Marie Fredriksson.

The couple met after Princess Madeleine fled to the US in 2010 with a broken heart.

She crossed the Atlantic after the breakdown of her first engagement to Swedish lawyer Jonas Bergstrom amid speculation that he had cheated on her.

Madeleine will return to Stockholm with her family in August. The couple share three children, Leonore, nine, Nicolas, seven, and Adrienne, four.

The children lost their title of Royal Highness after King Carl XVI Gustaf removed the title and membership of the Royal House in 2019, to give the grandchildren more freedom as they get older.

Although she has lived a much quieter royal life for many years, Princess Madeleine, 40, is still a patron of many charities in her home country.

Just a few weeks ago, the mother-of-three shared a photo of eldest daughter Leonore as she celebrated her ninth birthday.

She posted a photo of the young royal on Instagram with her blonde hair pulled back and sporting a dainty pair of stud earrings.

She wore lilac shorts paired with a white shirt, with ruffled collar and pink and green floral print.

Princess Madeleine wrote under the photo: ‘Today 9 years old! A very happy birthday to our dear Leonore who shines every day!’

Royal fans went wild with the snap, which quickly racked up more than 13,000 likes and more than 300 comments.

Despite the family currently living in Miami, Florida until August, Leonore was born in New York and holds both American and Swedish citizenship.

Princess Madeleine, Christopher O’Neill and the kids also adopted a rescue dog Oreo into the family last year, which will likely also move to Stockholm.

When she shared photos of Oreo on Instagram last year, the princess said Oreo was “not treated well and spent most of the day and night tied up outside, under the elements in Florida.”

She added, “But today he gets to make us laugh and show us what a tender and loving soul he has.”
