Queen Mary of Denmark exudes elegance in Søren le Schmidt's coat dress as she accompanies King Frederik at the change of throne

Queen Mary of Denmark exuded elegance today as she attended a throne change service with her husband, King Frederick.

The newly appointed royal couple appeared happier than in recent weeks, arriving at Aarhus Cathedral with their children: Crown Prince Christian, 18, Princess Isabella, 16, and twins Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine, 13.

Tasmania-born Mary, 51, stunned in a custom-made purple Søren le Schmidt coat dress made for the coronation of King Charles III last May.

She protected herself from the snowy weather by throwing on a cozy scarf and leather gloves, adding a pillbox hat and pumps to complete the look.

The mother of four introduced a touch of sparkle with diamond earrings from Bruun Rasmussen, a 2022 auction acquisition that she has worn several times.

Mary is known for her fashion choices, often wearing ornate ensembles made especially for her.

Her mid-length coat dress from Søren le Schmidt featured a shawl collar, a wrap-over front and a fitted waist, made in a deep purple shade.

This time, the queen upped her accessories, opting for scalloped leather gloves and a matching purple pillbox hat.

Meanwhile, her auburn locks were perfectly curled and arranged in a half-updo.

King Frederik, 55, ascended the throne last Sunday after his mother Margrethe abdicated after 52 years as queen.

A festive portrait, photographed from the royal Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen, was posted to the Danish royal family's Instagram page earlier this week.

The image showed the 51-year-old king and queen in full regalia, next to the couple's elegantly dressed four children.

The scandal-laden prince took over the crown on January 14, 2024, and became king of Denmark, succeeding his 83-year-old mother's phenomenal five-decade reign.

Margrethe's decision to leave the throne in honor of her eldest son surprised many as it comes in the midst of a controversial year for the royal family, which has been plagued by stripped titles and salacious rumors.

It comes after a resurfaced interview revealed Queen Mary almost never met then Prince Frederick.

“The taxi arrived and I said, 'Oh, okay, last minute, and I just got in.'

The interview took place in 2004, but has recently been republished.

However, Mary and Frederik's fairytale romance has come under scrutiny in recent weeks.

King Frederik has been under scrutiny since photos emerged of the then prince enjoying a night out with Mexican socialite Genoveva Casanova in Madrid last year.

The glamorous socialite strongly denied claims of a romantic tryst with Frederik, even going so far as to call them 'evil'.

However, in the recently released image, the royals have shown no sign of sweat or tribulation and can be seen beaming excitedly at the camera.
