The Prix de Rome is an incentive prize for talented visual artists from the Netherlands and/or the Caribbean part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

The winning artist will be rewarded with a contribution of €40,000 (£34,900) and the opportunity to take part in a residency of their choice.

It comes after the royal sophistication that radiated last week during a visit to Dutch Design Week.

She dressed to impress and put on a chic blue suit for the outing at the Klokgebouw in Eindhoven.

Máxima, who appeared cheerful, chatted with interior designer Mariska Dietz before being given a tour of the venue.

During the design week, a nine-day event takes place in Eindhoven with exhibitions, studio visits, workshops, seminars and parties throughout the city.

The royal family has just returned home from a whirlwind working visit to Africa as the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development (UNSGSA).

She added glamor with statement silver earrings and black leather heeled boots.

And despite a nine-hour flight home yesterday, she showed no signs of jet lag as she got straight back to her domestic royal duties.

A day earlier, Maxima met with the Kenyan Minister of Finance Njuguna Ndungu at the Radisson hotel in Nairobi.

She appeared deep in conversation during a roundtable discussion with Open Finance and Financial Health together with the Cabinet Secretary for Finance.

She also combined her studies with her work in the sales department of Boston Securities SA in Buenos Aires, where she researched software for the financial markets.

After graduating, she joined HSBC in New York, where she rose to vice president of institutional sales for Latin America.
