IPL 2024: While Rohit fans found it bizarre, one understands the logic behind the move. Rohit is in the twilight of his career and the franchise should look beyond him.

Under Rohit Sharma, Mumbai Indians won five IPL titles.

Centurion: Let us first confirm that the chances of Rohit Sharma moving from Mumbai Indians to Delhi Capitals are unlikely. But yes, ever since he was dropped as captain of the Mumbai franchise, there have been speculations about such a move. Fueling such rumours, Delhi Capitals Director of Cricket Sourav Ganguly expressed interest in acquiring the Indian captain’s services. But all said and done, the move is a far-fetched dream.

After the recently concluded IPL mini-auction, Mumbai Indians have named Hardik Pandya as their new captain. While Rohit fans found it bizarre, one can understand the logic behind this move. Rohit is in the twilight of his career and the franchise should look beyond him.

But hey, if such a move happens – why can it be counterproductive?

Start from a new slate: Rohit has achieved most things in IPL. Would the hunger still be there to start over with a new franchise as it means adapting and adjusting? Highly unlikely!

Loyalties: I do understand that cricket loyalty takes a backseat in the franchise. But with Rohit Sharma, things are changing as fans and everyone have always seen him as an MI player. Will Rohit be happy in a new franchise is a question only he will be able to answer.

Why change? At best, Rohit will play for another two to three seasons – why would he leave a franchise where he is the superstar? A franchise he has led to IPL triumph five times. At MI, he will also be part of the leadership group, even with Hardik Pandya as captain.

Remark: The Mumbai Indians franchise has categorically dismissed such rumors and said that Rohit would be with them. Furthermore, given his fan following and comfort level with the franchise, it is highly unlikely that he would leave.
