Royal viewers have taken to social media to share their excitement after spotting royal aide-de-camps during the Scottish coronation celebration at Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh today.

A number of high-profile royals are attending the event, but some fans have suggested they’re more excited about some of the lesser-known faces – most notably Major Jonathan Thompson, Captain Ollie Plunket and Lieutenant Commander Rob Dixon.

As adjutants, they are officers of a royal household or court, who assist members of the royal family in their duties. The position, which is normally held by a senior officer of one of the armed forces, lasts three years.

And these three men seem to have acquired their own fan base, having been spotted at a number of major royal events, with one fan taking to Twitter to simply write “Ladies, the equerries,” while another described the men as “handsome ‘.

Major Jonathan Thompson, of the 5th Battalion Royal Regiment of Scotland, captured admirers after being seen at the Queen’s funeral last year and became an unlikely online heartthrob.

When the handsome, kilted equerry stood between King Charles and the Pages of Honor at the historic coronation in May, he once again set hearts racing.

The army officer, 39, known to friends as ‘Johnny’ but dubbed ‘Major Eye Candy’ on TikTok, was once the Queen’s top bodyguard, but now serves His Majesty and is constantly seen by his side.

But beyond his royal duties, Major Thompson, of Northumberland, is a father to one and loving husband to his wife Caroline, marketing manager.

He and Caroline, 44, have been happily married since 2010 and welcomed their son in 2018. The couple, who currently live in Surrey, also own two black Labradors named Odin and Piper – a nod to Major Thompson’s military days in Scotland.

Royal fans around the world swooned after the King’s trusted official was spotted among the congregation at Westminster Abbey during the coronation.

The ‘dashing’ equerry stood next to the monarch during the ceremony, which many social media users said was ‘distracting’. “I have to admit there were times when I was a little distracted today,” one tweeted.

“Major Jonathan Thompson is why we are watching the coronation,” added another. “Look at his beauty and his big calves.”

Other admirers couldn’t help but point out the army officer’s strikingly good looks, too, as another fan wrote, “Did anyone else clock the handsome dude in the kilt?”

The officer became an object of affection from royal guards last year after taking center stage at historic royal events following the Queen’s death.

He was caught on camera calmly and coolly removing a pencil box that had been on the king’s desk, while Charles signed the proclamation naming him the new monarch.

He was also seen in the procession as the Queen’s coffin was escorted from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall for the four days of lying in state.

He greeted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on his trip to the UK in February and accompanied then Prime Minister Liz Truss to meet the King at Buckingham Palace in October 2022.

His role as an equerry, an officer of the Royal Household who assists members of the Royal Family, involves assisting the King in his day-to-day duties, standing beside him at public events and looking after the carriages, coaches and Rolls-Royces of the Royal Family. frost used in state ceremonies.

Another of the three favorite adjutants is Captain Ollie Plunket, Queen Camilla’s equerry.

Ollie, a kinsman of the 9th Lord Plunket, attracted a lot of attention during the Princess of Walescarol service at Westminster Abbey in December.

Compared to fan favorite Major Thompson, he is about ten years younger (at 28) – and, unlike Thompson, is unmarried.

Besides enjoying now is certainly an exciting and varied role, he also has some thrilling adventures in his past.

While still a teenager, Plunket, now an officer in The Rifles, embarked on a solo motorcycle ride from Argentina to Alaska, covering 40,000 miles and raising over £100,000 for wounded servicemen.

Prince William’s equerry, who also seems to be building up a legion of fans thanks to his dashing looks, is a Royal Navy officer who has been working for the Royal Household since September 2020, according to his LinkedIn.

While he describes himself as “primarily operating as a leader,” he noted that he also “functions well as part of the team.”

In 2015, he received a Green Endorsement, an award for “the speed of thought, judgment and total professionalism with which he handled an ever-expanding range of circumstances.”

Footage taken in July 2022 showed the equerry smiling as he attended a polo match in Surrey with Prince William.

Meanwhile, an April 2021 photo showed him with the Princess of Wales at Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral at Windsor Castle.
