RUSSELL Brand last night denied sexually assaulting a woman while she was drunk on the set of the film Arthur.
The comedian said his accuser mistook him for drunkenness because his character, Arthur Bach, was a… alcoholic.
He claimed he had been sober for eight years at the time and that the woman had a “false memory.”
In her lawsuit, filed with the New York State Supreme Court in November, the woman alleged that Mr. Brand assaulted her in 2010 while filming a remake of the 1981 Dudley Moore comedy.
She said Brand, 48, “appeared drunk,” “smelled of alcohol” and had a bottle of vodka with him on set.
While waiting to film a scene in a Manhattan restaurant, Mr. Brand “pulled his erect penis out of his pants,” it is alleged.

The case continues.
Mr Brand is represented by Andrew Brettler, the 'pit bull' lawyer who also represented Prince Andreas in his claims of abuse by one of Jeffrey Epstein's victims.
In a court document, Mr. Brettler said that Mr. Brand got sober on December 13, 2002, so he had been clean for eight years when he played the film's alcoholic protagonist.
Mr Brettler wrote: “Arthur Bach, originally played by Dudley Moore in the 1981 comedy Arthur, is a drunk.
“Brand, an actor and comedian, played the same role in the 2010 remake.
Although Brand's job was to act drunk and portray a drunk in the film, he did not drink alcohol or drugs at any point during production.
According to Mr Brettler, the vodka bottle was a “prop” for the film and Mr Brand did not even “recognize” the woman by her name or her photo.
Mr Brand was separately accused of sexual assault by four other women in a report published by The Times last year Channel 4.
He has denied any wrongdoing.
