Ryan Gosling struggles to follow Barbie’s children’s backstories

Ryan Gosling brings the “Kenergy” to Greta Gerwig‘s Barbie movie – but not when his daughters ask him to play with their dolls.

‘My kids, their Barbies aren’t even called ‘Barbie’. They all have their own name [and] very complicated lives, backstories, mutual relationships, history — you need to know it all,” Gosling, 42, told ET Canada during an interview on Thursday 29 June at a Barbie press event in Toronto. “If you play with the two who are now estranged for some reason [and you did not know that]it’s like, ‘Get out of here.’”

The La La Land star shares daughters Esmeralda, 8, and Amada, 7, with his longtime partner Eva Mendes. Esmeralda and Amada will soon see their father portray another version of Ken Barbie hits theaters July 21 — and Mendes already approves of the character.

When he’s not preparing to bring the iconic doll to life, Ryan and Mendes are mostly raising their little ones out of the spotlight.

“The feeling is that they get along better if they’re outside of Hollywood, in Canada or further away from Los Angeles, like Santa Barbara or further up the coast,” a second source previously said.
