He is the scandal-prone comedian who sparked controversy after joking about domestic violence.

And Australian fans appear to have been chilled by Matt Rife, 28, as the American TikTok star continues the Down Under leg of his ProbleMATTic world tour.

A woman who attended one of Rife's local shows lashed out at the prankster in a scathing review on Facebook gossip page Tea Time on Tuesday, describing his set as “unfinished” and “watered down.”

The reviewer said Rife was initially received with enthusiasm, but fans quickly turned on him as he continued with his hour-long set.

“I'm not sure how comedians work, if it's new material…but this seemed unfinished or watered down,” the fan wrote.

They continued, “His jokes didn't land as usual. The audience consisted of 2,000 people and was generally quite quiet.'

While the commenter acknowledged that “tours can be challenging,” she couldn't help but notice how poorly Rife's set ended up that night.

“When the show ended we all walked out and people weren't hyped. People were screaming about how bad it was and what they thought it was going to be,” she said.

The post received a number of angry responses from anti-Rife users.

“Well that's your problem, you support Matt Rife,” the user posted.

“I'd rather watch a used tampon get thrown against the wall a bunch of times than see that guy Matt live,” another wrote.

Rife has been a series of shows across Australia this month, including concerts in Perth, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.

Rife, who has amassed 18 million TikTok fans, recently sparked controversy when he made a sexist joke about domestic violence as part of his Netflix comedy special Natural Selection, which was filmed in Washington, DC and released on the streaming platform in November.

He kicked off the controversial joke with a comparison between the US capital and the largest nearest city: Baltimore.

“I've only been to Baltimore once, and the hostess sitting with you had a black eye — a complete black eye,” Rife told the crowd. “It wasn't like, 'What happened?' It was pretty clear what happened.

“And my boy, who I was with, said, 'Yeah, I feel sorry for her, man, I feel like they should put her in the kitchen or something where no one has to see her face.' And I thought, 'Yeah, but I feel like if she could cook, she wouldn't have that black eye.'

He later appeared to apologize for the joke telling his followers: “If you've ever been offended by a joke I've told, here's a link to my official apology.”

But the link was to a website that sells 'special needs helmets', causing extra fury over his apparently capable comment.
