Selma Blair gives an update on her health during her MS battle: ‘I feel much stronger now’

Selma Blair gave an update on her health at the 2023 Glamor Women of the Year Awards, which took place on Tuesday evening.

The 51-year-old actress spoke Entertainment tonight at the star-studded event and revealed that she had made a lot of progress after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2018.

The performer, who recently shared a tribute to her late boyfriend Matthew Perry, also spoke about being in remission and adjusting to life with the condition.

Blair began by revealing that although “it took a while” for her to recover from multiple sclerosis, she was now “really feeling a lot stronger and building stamina.”

The Hellboy actress also stated that her illness had been “burning for many, many years” before she started her treatment.

The performer went on to say that he has been able to raise awareness about multiple sclerosis in recent years.

‘It has been a very beautiful journey in this second part of my life, of finding [my] community and realizing that nothing feels as good as helping to be a megaphone for other people,” she said.

Blair then stated that it was ‘so amazing’ to be named as one of the winners of the event.

‘This is incredible. And at a time when we’re certainly burdened with a lot of thoughts in this world, it’s nice to come out and celebrate people who want to hear each other’s voices,” she said.

The Cruel Intentions actress concluded by expressing her commitment to bringing attention to issues faced by people living with multiple sclerosis and other life-impacting conditions.

The performer stated, “It is such an honor to be an advocate for people with disabilities.”

Blair announced that she had been officially diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in an Instagram post shared in August 2018.

The actress revealed during an interview that she had suffered from symptoms related to the disease for more than four decades British Vogue which was released earlier this year.

The performer also spoke openly about living with multiple sclerosis in her memoir Mean Baby: A Memoir of Growing Up, which was published last May.

In her book, Blair discussed how she could effectively become a spokesperson for people living with the disease and how she would embrace her new role in life.

She wrote via The guard: ‘I became a kind of face for the disease, an advocate for something that is important to me. Even though it’s a role I never thought I would play, it has become who I am.”

‘I think it’s important to talk about it. When it comes to chronic diseases, there is a great shame in making your experiences public,” she added.
