New Delhi: Indian indices opened on a positive note today despite a sudden drop in US indices including the Dow Jones, S&P 500, Nasdaq Composite and Russell 2000 Index.

BSE Sensex reached a new 52-week high today at 63,588.31. It closed yesterday at 51,632.85.

At 2pm IST on Wednesday, BSE Sensex was trading 176.67 points higher at 63,504.37.

“It is a pleasure to see Sensex achieve a new record despite several challenges from the global front. With the Prime Minister’s visit to the US, we really hope that our economy will do even better, and we have to wait and see whether the current upswing continues. We are waiting for June’s quarterly results to trickle in in hopes that they will be broadly in line with expectations. Despite a choppy trend in FII flows to date, there will be strong interest from foreign investors to continue,” said Rakesh Mehta, Chairman at Mehta Equities Ltd.
