Seth Meyers really doesn't understand Taylor Swift NFL hate
Seth Meijers really don't understand how NFL fans can passionately hate NFL game day coverage Taylor Swift.
“For all the people complaining about shots of Taylor Swift dancing and having fun during games, why? Why are you so angry?” Meyers, 50, joked during the Wednesday, January 31, episode of his Late Night with Seth Meyers talk show. “I love football, but there are eleven minutes of real gameplay [shown on the broadcast].”
He continued, “What would you rather look at: pictures of [Kansas City Chiefs coach] Andy Reid's mustache freezes over? Well, good news, you get them both!”
Meyers was referring to the Chiefs' AFC Wild Card game in January against the Miami Dolphins. “Taylor was at that game [too] and then I knew it was real,” he joked. “When this woman went to Kansas City in January when it was minus f-king 27 [degrees] feeling cold because you know where else Taylor Swift could have been? Everywhere.”
Meyers further pointed out that Swift, who he called “one of our greatest national treasures,” is dating “a guy named f–king Travis.”

Swift, 34, has been a proud member of Chiefs Kingdom since September 2023 in support of his friend Travis Kelce, a tight end for the team, who she started dating the previous summer. Swift has attended twelve of Kelce's football games, where she occasionally appeared on the Jumbotron and on camera. The reporting angered several sports fans, who claimed the on-screen pop star is being prioritized over the actual game.
“I don't know how they know which suite I'm in.” There's a camera about half a mile away, and you don't know where it is, and you have no idea when the camera puts you in it. the broadcast, so I don't know if I'm on seventeen times or once,” Swift said TIME in a December 2023 profile. “I'm just here to support Travis. I have no idea if too much of me is being shown and I'm pissing off some dads, Brads and Chads.”

While football games are typically broadcast on TV for three hours, less than twenty minutes are devoted exclusively to the match, as the camera often covers footage of fans in the stands, game reviews, pundit commentary, sideline footage of the coaches and commercials. Sports reporter Colin Cowherd noted in January that the “18 minutes of real football” are as long as five Swift songs.
Travis' brother, Jason Kelceis also on board with the NFL's coverage of Swift.
“The attention is there because the audience wants to see it. If people didn't want to see it, they wouldn't show it, I know that,” Jason, 36, joked during an interview with Cincinnati's ABC affiliate WCPO 9 on Friday, February 2. “She is a world star and the artist of the moment in the world. [She’s] extremely talented, an incredible role model for young women all over the world, so I think the NFL would probably be foolish not to feature her and show that she is a role model for all the young girls out there.
