Seventeen furious brides have claimed that a wedding singer ruined their special day by not showing up or canceling at the last minute with a slew of excuses.

Charlotte Hadley, from Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, had booked an acoustic wedding singer for her big day in Ibiza in September 2022.

The 38-year-old was such a big fan that when finance manager husband Rob, 34, proposed in October 2020, she booked him to sing the same week, paying £1,000 upfront.

Weeks before the big day, the singer called the salon owner to say that he had lost his passport and could not make it to the passport office for his appointment because someone had been hit by a train.

Eight days before the wedding, a furious Charlotte says she told the performer not to bother going to Ibiza, leaving her looking for some entertainment for her big day.

Charlotte shared her experience on Facebook, where she claims 16 other brides had contacted her to say the singer had canceled performing at their weddings due to friends suffering from cancer, suicides and car accidents.

The singer says he didn’t want to leave Charlotte “high and dry” and offered to help her find another musician, even though his passport turned up in time and he could have made it to the wedding.

The singer, who is known for writing personalized songs about couples, says he knows he’s “let down a lot of people” and that his “communication skills are atrocious,” but that his reasons were “legitimate.”

charlotte said:[The singer] has a brilliant voice. I planned the wedding around him, the venue, everything.

“The closer we got, something wasn’t right. He called and my heart sank and he said he lost his passport.

“I went into panic mode. I absolutely cooked.

“I took the risk of not having anyone at all or canceled. I was too angry to call. I texted that it was best we canceled because I couldn’t risk him not showing up that day.

“Should I have asked these people who flew over from England to plug in their phones and play some tunes? My gut feeling told me he wouldn’t come.’

Charlotte claims her planner contacted her two weeks after her own wedding to let her know that the singer had canceled another client two days before their special day due to a friend suffering from cancer.

While the artist said it’s true he was canceling a gig because someone was diagnosed with cancer, he “doesn’t want to talk about other people or play the sympathy card.”

Sixteen brides have since reportedly contacted Charlotte, saying they were also abandoned by the musician who they say used reasons such as finding his neighbor dead.

The singer says he “can’t remember” if there was another wedding he was due to attend two weeks after Charlotte’s and he can’t recall ever not showing up at a wedding without the bride and groom on the record. to notify.

Charlotte said, ‘It’s the most important day of people’s lives. I want to call him out because I don’t want a bride to go through the weeks of tears I did and ruin the lead up to the wedding.

“If you work in the wedding industry, you show up no matter what. One of these reasons could be plausible, but not all.’

One bride wrote, “Just a warning. Don’t book [name redacted]. He will take your money and ignore you. He took our money and didn’t show up to our wedding.’

Another said, “I was another bride he abandoned. Booked August 2021 for my wedding in April 2022, just haunted me. It took four weeks to get a refund.”

A third added: “He never showed up at my friend’s wedding in December.”

One wedding photographer wrote: ‘So I did a wedding where he contacted the bride on the morning of the wedding and told her that his neighbor who was also a very close friend had been found dead (they think suicide) and he could don’t attend the wedding.’

The singer says he’s no longer taking bookings because it became “too much work-wise,” but he has a few more weddings to perform before giving up altogether.

In a statement, the singer said: “It’s terrible because there are quite a few people I’ve let down.

‘I lost my passport, but I don’t know when. In January I had been issued a one year passport because I had lost so many times I didn’t even think they would give me one.

“I was afraid it wouldn’t come in time. I have proof of my passport appointment booking and my passport was issued in September.

‘It’s nonsense that there wasn’t a problem on my train line, because there was.

“I got my passport and I messaged Charlotte that it was here, then she canceled and got upset.

“I sent her a photo of my passport, she said she couldn’t sit back and wait, which is understandable. How I would have loved to go to a wedding in Ibiza.

‘I offered to find a replacement for the music for her myself. I didn’t want to leave her high and dry and I hadn’t because my passport showed up. She was paid back and everything.

“It sounds like I’m making excuses, in people’s eyes it won’t make a difference. Someone has been diagnosed with cancer. I don’t want to talk about other people. I don’t want people to think I’m playing the sympathy card.

“For various reasons, my communication skills are sometimes terrible.

“I’ve been late at some weddings, I don’t know if there are 16 people I’ve cancelled. There have been legitimate reasons. I have lost two very important people.

‘I don’t do this anymore, I stopped taking bookings a while ago because it got a bit too much work.

‘I’m afraid everyone I’ve booked will freak out about me not showing up. I do non-stop weddings.

“I can’t remember why I didn’t show up that day. I don’t remember not showing up and not interacting with them at all.’

In April last year, it was reported that another couple had taken the singer to court to demand a refund of £1,365 after he failed to write and perform a song at their wedding.
