In an exclusive interview with We weeklyThe actor, 45, revealed that the film on his resume he is most proud of is from 2007 What we do in secret in which West starred as the late Germs co-founder and singer Darby Crash. The biopic – which also starred Bijou Philips, Rik González And Noah Segan – followed the early days and career of the punk rock band.
“In reality, I was able to join the band,” says West Usnoting that he worked on the project while also starring in it ER. “The band got back together and I started touring [them] for at least four or five years.”
The portrayal of the musician, who died by suicide in 1980, left a lasting impression on West. “I have [a] tattoo of Darby because I became close to his family, friends and fans,” he explains, noting that the experience was “pretty rare.”
The Nikita alum is also no stranger to the small screen, and he was quick to share which projects he’d like to revisit if given the chance. “[With] Salemwe were never able to get to that ending,” says West, who played Captain John Alden in the supernatural horror series, which was canceled in 2016. “Salem It would be fun to go back and maybe do a one-off fourth final season to show what happened to all these characters.
West also believes his time as Bane is over Gotham – which he recalls was “a lot of fun to be a part of” – was cut too quickly: “I wish we could have done more with the character, but we only had four episodes to do it with” , he says .
With streaming services allowing older films and television shows to find new audiences (à la To take), West hopes that some of his older work will attract a larger fan base. “That would be great, to have a new life on streaming,” he says Us.

West’s latest project is Waldena thriller starring Emile Hirsch as Walden Dean, a stenographer who takes matters into his own hands after witnessing one too many injustices in the courtroom. “I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a script like that,” says West, noting that he was “intrigued from the start.”
In the film, West plays family man Detective Billy Kane – a role he has wanted to play “for a while,” he says. “Being able to play parent, so to speak, and get married and have a little girl has been important to me,” he adds.
It was a bonus that the film allowed West to collaborate with Hirsch. “We’ve known each other for years and wanted to work together, so after that it was a no-brainer,” he explains. “I didn’t know he would play Walden the way he did – which was great – but I knew he would come in and give 100 percent.”
Filming in Georgia allowed West, Hirsch and their costars to – including Kelli Garner And Tania Raymonde – plenty of opportunity to bond when the cameras went down. “We went out for dinner and mainly played pool together,” he says. “Decatur gave us plenty of time to hang out.”
While the dark thriller isn’t for the faint of heart (“I don’t know if I can see my mother watching this movie,” he explains), West is proud of the final installment. “It’s tough,” he adds, “but at the end of the day there’s good heart in it.”
