THIS is the shocking moment two teenagers stomp on a prison guard's head during a riot, leaving him with horrific injuries.

The huge brawl started when a fellow inmate punched Phillips in the face, Newport Crown Court heard.

Jail security guard and physical training officer Ryan Young attempted to stop the fight that broke out in a common area on the morning of July 18, 2021.

The pair launched their terrifying attack on the guard, knocking him unconscious.

Describing what happened, prosecutor Abigail Jackson said: “Mr Young restrained one of the men on the ground.

“His last memory of the incident was that, as he lay on the ground, he received a number of blows to the head before becoming unconscious.

“Finley Phillips is seen on CCTV punching Mr Young on the head before trampling him.

“Marzin Moshen becomes involved in the incident once Mr. Young is already somewhat incapacitated on the floor.

“He can clearly be seen stamping on Mr Young's head.

“Both Mr. Phillips and Mr. Moshen intended to injure another male inmate, but ended up injuring Mr. Young himself.”

The brawl was eventually stopped by other prison staff.

Mr. Young was found lying on the ground and drifting in and out of consciousness.

He was rushed to the emergency room and treated for a cut on his left eye with glue and paper stitches.

SUFFER DELAYED BRAIN CUSSE

Mr Young was unable to return to work for eight weeks because he was delayed concussion.

He also had scars on his eye, the court heard.

He also struggled with it sleep after the brutal attack and has undergone cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for the trauma.

The attack also caused concern for his family, including his son.

Mr Jong said WalesOnline: “It's a very challenging environment to work in. The support from my colleagues has been invaluable to my recovery. We are like one big family.

“It was not fun for them to witness what had happened and have to carry on.

“I can't thank everyone who helped me enough.”

The court also heard about a separate incident in which Moshen brutally attacked a man in Newport last May.

The victim Khalid Akbar had made accusations against Moshen and was said to be a witness in a possible trial.

Although the prosecution never moved forward with that first case, Moshen was indicted for the attack on Mr. Akbar, which left him with eight ribs and a wound to his forehead.

Philips, of Hartcliffe, Bristoladmitted serious bodily injury (GBH) about injuries in prison.

Moshen of Newport relented GBH and witnessing harassment over the Newport attack, as well as actual bodily harm (ABH) resulting from the prison incident.

Moshen has recorded 17 previous offenses including violent disorder, theft and dangerous the driving.

His lawyer Joshua Scouller said Moshen had problems with maturity, cognitive skills and impulsivity.

Mr Scouller said: “He was closer in mental age to someone who would have been 15, if not younger, at the time of the murder. [prison] offence. His involvement was rather more volatile than that of Mr. Phillips.”

Phillips, whose girlfriend is due to give birth soon, has 20 previous offenses to his name, including assault, affray, ABH, fraud, burglary and criminal damage.

He told the defendants: “It is clear that Mr Young was not the target of your violence, but there is a graphic image of him on the CCTV footage lying motionless on the ground.

“He was just trying to do his duty in a very difficult public service.”

He sentenced Moshen to 26 months in a juvenile facility and Phillips to 16 months in a juvenile facility.
