While iPhone 13 models and newer automatically have a minimum of 12 GB of storage, older models only offer 5 GB and users can reach the limit very quickly
By default, your iPhone saves every message you send and receive, which means your phone can become clogged with unnecessary storage space.
While this feature can be useful if you want to reminisce about conversations you had years ago, these messages can accumulate over time and clog up your phone for no good reason.
To activate the feature, unlock your iPhone, open the Settings app and scroll until you see “Messages.”
Tap the icon and scroll through the subsection until you see “Message History.”
You should then be able to click “Keep messages,” which gives you three options: 30 days, a year, forever.
The setting is automatically set to “Forever,” but you can choose what fits. Tapping on any of the options will bring up a popup asking if you want to delete older messages.
You can then tap “Delete” to free up space and avoid paying extra for storage.
You can undo these changes at any time.
iPhone users should also beware of WhatsApp adding unnecessary attachments to your phone.
The app automatically saves photos, videos, and voice memos unless otherwise specified.
To change this open WhatsApp, tap Settings, tap Storage & data, then go to Manage storage to view and delete attachments individually.
To check how much space you have left on your iPhone, go to the Settings app, scroll to “General,” and click “iPhone Storage.”

The setting tells you how much space you’re using and which applications are taking up the most storage space to guide you through what you might want to delete.
Another great way to free up storage space is to delete duplicate photos. The common problem can eat up storage space, but there is an easy way to fix it.
First, open the Photos app, go to “Albums,” and under the “Utilities” section, tap “Duplicates,” then tap “Merge” next to your chosen photos to remove duplicates.
If you want to remove the duplicates right away, in the last step, tap the three dots in the top right corner and tap “Select All” to merge all duplicates.
