Sophia Bush‘s friends cheered her on as she navigated her divorce Grant Hughes.
“Do you remember that? Megan Thee Stallion song ‘Hot Girl Summer’?” Bush asked Bethany Joy Lenz on the Monday, December 11 episode of their podcast “Drama queen.” Lenz replied, “Yes.”
Bush explained that she and many of her friends were going through breakups and difficult divorces around the same time in late spring/early summer.
“At one point someone called it ‘Hot Divorce Summer.’ And I was just dying,” Bush recalled. “I liked that we have a group chat that literally gives everyone life and people exchange recommendations for lawyers and send each other quotes from phenomenal writers. We have a book club. We send each other really hilarious memes from TikTok. It just turned out so great.”
As Bush reflected on her involvement in the text chain, an idea occurred to her. The separate group chat had to appear on the big screen. “Maybe we should make that movie,” she joked.
“That’s the rom-com I want to see!” Lenz gushed.
We weekly confirmed in August that Bush and Hughes had called it quits after 13 months of marriage. That same day, Bush removed Hughes’ last name from her Instagram bio and subsequently deleted photos of the couple.
This is evident from court documents obtained by Us Bush filed for divorce from the entrepreneur at the time and stated the date of separation as June 27 – shortly after they celebrated their first wedding anniversary.
A source said this exclusively Us that Bush and Hughes’ breakup was amicable because they were “better off as friends.”
“It wasn’t ugly and they still support each other,” the insider explained. “They want each other to be happy and for their nonprofit to continue to thrive.”
In October, several media reported that Bush had moved on with the footballer Ashlyn Harriswho also recently divorced his estranged wife Ali Krieger after four years of marriage. A second source says this Us that the pair started out as “just friends” but that they “bonded after the breakup and had to start over.”
After Harris and Bush’s speculated romance made headlines, Hughes reacted to the news. “Grant will always want the best for Sophia and supports whatever makes her happy and fulfilled,” a representative for Hughes said. Page six at the time.
