Oscar-nominated actress Stephanie Hsu (Everything Everywhere All At Once) will star in the new Peacock series Laid.

The streaming service announced a straight-to-series order for Laid via a Peacock press release on Thursday – bypassing the pilot phase entirely.

The series is created and executive produced by Nahnatchka Khan (Young Rock, Totally Killer) and Sally Bradford McKenna (Son of Zorn).

The series follows a woman (Hsu) who discovers that her former lovers are dying in unusual ways and must go back through her sex timeline to confront her past in order to move forward.

The show is described as: ‘damn romcom with the answer to “Why can’t I find love, is there something wrong with me?” is a resounding “Yes. It is. The problem is definitely yours.”‘

The show is based on the Australian series ‘Laid’ created by Marieke Hardy and Kirsty Fisher, produced by Liz Watts.

Khan and Bradford McKenna will executive produce alongside star Hsu and Fox Entertainment’s John Fox and John Davis.

Also executive producing are Jennifer Carreras of Fierce Baby, Marieke Hardy of Porchlight Films, Kirsty Fisher and Liz Watts and All3Media International.

Hsu had small roles in films such as Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Asking For It and Set It Up and a recurring role as Mei in Amazon’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

She had her breakout role in 2022 Best Picture winner Everything Everywhere All At Once, playing Joy Wang, the daughter of Michelle Yeoh’s Evelyn Wang.

She last appeared on the Peacock series Poker Face in a 2023 episode, along with the film Joy Ride starring Ashley Park, Sherry Cola and Sabrina Wu.

Hsu also voiced characters in a trio of Netflix animated projects this year: The Mayor’s Wife in The Monkey King and Leo’s Mom in Leo and Ise in Blue Eye Samurai.

She also has a role in the upcoming movie remake of the hit ’80s TV series The Fall Guy, which hits theaters May 3.

The actress also continues her voice-over animation work through Dr. Sleech to voice in The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy.

She also voices Golden Glider in Kite Man: Hell Yeah! which will be released later this year.

Khan is best known for creating ABC’s Don’t Trust the B**** in Apartment 23 and Fresh Off the Boat, along with NBC’s Young Rock.

She also directed the hit 2019 Netflix film Always Be My Maybe starring Ali Wong and Randall Park.
