But on Wednesday, skip extravagant gifts and make a heartfelt gesture instead.

It's always the thought that counts. . .

TOKEN GESTURE: Make a book of personalized love tokens in which you make special favors or commitments for completing household chores. You can also write a voucher for a home-cooked dinner, a movie night or a relaxing massage.

SAY CHEESE: Put together a scrapbook or photo album of your top moments. You can do this for relationship milestones or your best vacations.

Add captions and dates and you can even record company cards of some favorite restaurants you visited on date nights.

MEMORY STREET: Fill a jar with handwritten notes that evoke your favorite memories, inside jokes, or reasons why you love your partner. Decorate the pot with ribbon or stickers for that little bit extra.

RHYME TIME: Find a romantic love verse on poetryfoundation.org and write it down for your partner. Place it in an old photo frame that you can keep and cherish.

If you don't have one, head to a thrift store to find a bargain. Another great option is to design your own digital poem, using the templates at canva.com, and print it out to frame for a budget gift that has meaning and looks professional.

HOT CHOCOLATE: Make a batch of chocolate truffles with just two ingredients. Heat a can of condensed milk and about 4 tablespoons of cocoa powder over low heat for ten minutes.

Place the mixture in the refrigerator to cool, roll into balls and sprinkle with the remaining cocoa powder.

IT'S ALL PINK: If you still want to give flowers, you can do that too: go to a Lidl store and buy a single red luxury rose for €2.49.
