Waitrose is selling 1kg mini eggs for £12.50

Waitrose is selling the Easter treats in stores and online – and the £12.50 price tag has divided shoppers.

One chocolate fan stated on the Hotukdeals website where the offer was posted: “Share? That’s right.”

Another said: “What’s not to like about this?”

“1 kg of mini eggs to bake, hide, share or care for for a few weeks, at a much better price than the small bags.”

But others mocked the price tag, with one user saying: “laughing”.

Although the initial cost is higher than normal due to the size of the bag, at the time of writing these are actually the cheapest you can buy Mini Eggs, at just £1.25 per 100 grams.

The closest you’ll find to this size is a pack of eight mini egg bags in Tesco, which costs £4 and contains 308 grams of chocolate.

This amounts to approximately € 1.30 per 100 grams.

Even if you bought three for £4 each, you still wouldn’t have enough chocolate to beat the 1kg Waitrose bag.

Waitrose is often among the most expensive supermarkets and in recent weeks Easter egg deals have been spotted at stores such as Tesco and Sainsbury’s.

The same giant mini egg bag has been spotted in B&M for 50p cheaper at £12, but that was in December.

Fans loved it, but it’s still worth shopping around now to see if you can bag the deal at B&M, although items can sell out quickly.

With these types of deals, it’s always worth checking the unit price.

This is when the price is shown in the same weight or size for different sized items, for example a price per 100g or 100ml.

Unit pricing makes it easier for shoppers to find the best deal.

You should be able to see the unit price of the product where the price tag appears (it may be in lower case).

Often buying an item that is larger or in larger quantities can work out cheaper overall, although the upfront costs are higher, such as with Waitrose’s 1kg mini eggs, although this is not always the case.

Remember, it’s always good to shop around to make sure you’re getting the cheapest deal.

The closer we get to Easter, the more likely it is that other retailers will compete to be the cheapest in an attempt to get your money’s worth.

You can use shopping comparison tools such as Google Shopping and Trolley.co.uk to compare the cost of items from different sellers.

Also keep in mind that there’s a chance you might get a different offer in-store than online, so keep your eyes peeled.

Plus prices may change overnight, or go on sale or return to full price at any time.

If you can’t get your hands on these, we tested mini eggs from the supermarket with the original Cadbury eggs.

If you love Lindt, we’ve listed some of the cheapest places where you can buy Lindt chocolate eggs too.

Supermarkets are not sitting still about the Easter deals they have in store.

Tesco has slashed the prices of its large Easter eggs and there are more than 20 chocolate eggs to choose from.

If you’re looking for Easter eggs on a budget, Morrisons has dropped the price of its Easter eggs to 75p if you have a More card.

Sainsbury’s is offering all Nectard card users the chance to get their hands on extra-large Easter eggs for just £4.
