Sydney Olympic Park was the hottest place in the city on Sunday as revelers braved a scorching heatwave to attend the St Jerome's Laneway Festival.

Visitors flooded the Sydney Showgrounds from midday to midnight as thousands flocked to the popular one-day festival known as Laneway.

The star-studded line-up included performances from Stormzy, Steve Lacey and Dominic Fike.

The festival was open to revelers over the age of 16.

A heavy police presence of officers patrolling the venue throughout the festival ensured revelers were on their best behavior.

Police drug detection dogs prevented illegal substances from entering the location.

Tickets for the event started at $179.90.

One of the biggest highlights of the festival was the four air-conditioned stages as temperatures soared into the mid-30s across Sydney.

Exacerbating the heat, humidity dropped by almost 50 percent, bringing the 'feeling temperature' closer to 40°C.

Despite the heat, attendees were all smiles for the cameras as they entered the venue for a day of festival fun.

A young and energetic crowd took advantage of the sunny, clear blue skies, with short skirts, denim and vibrant outfits dominating the fashion of the day.

Many partygoers ditched the usual music festival uniform of bright colors and glitter and opted for neutral colors in cool fabrics.

One of the most popular accessories was a hat to protect partygoers from the hot sun.

But some attendees were left furious after their sunscreen and make-up were confiscated at the event gate.

“When you enter the festival you're told not to wear sunscreen, stupid,” one reveler said online.

In response to organizers asking followers what their 'highlight' of the day was, another said: 'Probably my lip gloss, perfume, deodorant and sunscreen being confiscated.'

The decision was made by security, despite Laneway's website recommending visitors bring sun protection.

Now in its 19th year, the much-loved festival returned in 2023 for the first time in three years following the Covid pandemic.

The festival is being held for the first time at the Sydney Showgrounds and has been a major event for music lovers since 2006.

The festival, commonly referred to as Laneway, started in 2005 as a series of weekly gigs in an unassuming bar in the Melbourne CBD.

It has now exploded in popularity and expanded to five Australian cities – Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Fremantle – as well as Auckland, New Zealand and Singapore.
