Sylvester Stallone wants Ryan Gosling to replace him in 'Rambo'

Ryan Gosling might not have been Kenough for Barbie, but Sylvester Stallone thinks he would make a fantastic Rambo.

“I met [Ryan] over dinner,” Stallone, 77, revealed during an episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon earlier this month. “It's clear that we are opposites. He looks good. I am not. Serious! Can you imagine I'm Ken? It doesn't work at all.”

The actor told Fallon, 49, about the interesting conversation the pair had, saying he was blown away when he discovered that Gosling is a big fan of the films — and that he actually used Stallone as inspiration for Ken.

“[Ryan] says: 'I was fascinated by it Rambo, and I used to go to school dressed as Rambo, and people would chase me away and I still wouldn't stop. I would go on vacation as Rambo,” Stallone recalls. “He kept saying he had a lot of ties to it Rambo.”

At one point during their conversation, Stallone was so impressed by Gosling's love for Rambo that he realized how to keep the popular franchise going for future generations.

“I thought, 'You know, this is interesting. “If I ever pass the baton, I'll pass it to him because he loves the character,” Stallone admitted.

While Stallone felt very good about potentially taking on the role, he did express one concern about his casting choice.

“I don't know if anyone would say, 'Hey, he looks too good.' Rambo'' Stallone admitted.

Currently there are no plans to shoot another one Rambo movie. Although Stallone has appeared as the titular character in five films over the years. The action franchise released its first film in 1982, titled First blood. The most recent episode, Last bloodwas released in 2019.

In the series, Stallone plays main character John Rambo, a Vietnam War veteran and a highly skilled Green Beret. Although he is a decorated hero, he will do anything to protect those closest to him. However, because his experience fighting in the war has traumatized him, he has difficulty fitting back into civilian society and often finds himself in dangerous, brutal and violent situations.

Gosling, in turn, recently played the role of Ken in the 2023 summer hit Barbie. The actor has received widespread critical acclaim for his performance, which has earned him a Golden Globe, SAG and Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
